I picked up this old classic Mauser in pretty good condition, does anybody out there have any knowledge about this rifle, value, history or ammunition to be used?

Post more about it, does it have a country crest?  I assume it is either 8x57 or 7x57 (most popular).  I currently own more military Mausers than I care to say.  They include a Swedish M38 & M96 (6.5x55mm), a M95 (7x57) from Chile, a few K98k's, a VZ-24, and a few more....  Most of mine are in 8x57.  I look for the war trophies, over the recently imported ones.  Look for "CIA" stamped on the barrel and calibre etched on the reciever, this is a dead give- away for a recently imported one.  Nothing wrong with them, they are good shooters, but I perfer the bring backs, as they seem to be cleaner and more original.  The Mauser rifle is still a bargan!!!  My local gunshop sometimes has these for under a $100.  They just need a good cleaning.  I seen some excellent bores under all that storage grease.
