ok, thinking about a 9mm. i been thinking glock, walther, of baretta. if i went glock it would proly be the 19. walther would be p99, and baretta would be 92f/ any ideas on which way to go, or other makes to look at?

I don't think that there is a wrong desision in the choices presented. Get the one that looks the coolest to you.

Go GLOCK!

Any of the mentioned weapons would be great, but I think I would rather go with the Glock 26 rather than the Glock 19.  

Just a matter of choice, you know, but I also seem to be a tad more accurate with the 26!

Don't know why, though, just personal ergonomics I guess.

There are so many good ones out there try and see which one fits your hand the best.  My preference is for the Glock, but it might feel funky in your hand.

Give the HS2000 a look.  They are inexpensive and have received good reviews.  The CZ75 is another good option, though I am not a big fan of the double/single action type trigger.  I like the consistency of the Glock.  The 19 is a great size as well.

Out of those choices, Glock all the way. Accuracy, durability, and reliability are all in Glock's favor.
You may want to check out SIG and H&K as well, and depending on what exactly you are looking for, check out Kahr's P9 or K9 for a small carry gun- they're about the size of a Walther PPK, and are very comfortable to carry. Every review I have read on them has been stellar as well. I highly recommend them and carry my P9, totally undetected, wearing everything from shorts to a business suit.

Go with a 1911 in .45 ACP. That way you wont have to buy a 1911 later.

All of the above guns are good ones. If you are 9mm inclined then the Glock is my favorite.

I would recommend you handle as many as possible and decide which you prefer based on what feels right to you.
An example is I wanted either a Sig or an H&K USP. I handled the Sig and hated the feel. I like the gun but it does not fit me.
Do not forget some of the others as well like the Browning Hi-Power/FEG clones and HS2000.
If you decide to go with the Beretta you owe to yourself to look at the Taurus PT-92/96. Half the price, years membership to the NRA or renewal for current members, can be carried cocked and locked....unlike the Beretta and half the price.

I love my 92FS, it is a beautiful weapon. It was my fist handgun purchase. The Glocks are nice. I have the 27, but the trigger isn't my favorite.

I would check out the CZ75B if you are looking to save a few dollars. Not only is it cheaper than most other 9's, it is extremely accurate and the trigger is awesome out of the box too. It's a much smoother and lighter pull than the Beretta. You can carry the 75B cocked and locked too.

I just picked one up and so far I love it. I have heard other people compete its accuracy to the Sigs. With all these choices, no matter what you do you can’t go wrong.

I like the CZ75 and the 92.  Lots of hi-caps available at a reasonable price too.

I carry the M19 and have a M17 (both Glocks of course) and I sometimes shoot either them or a 1911 in the IDPA matches. I shoot a 1911 in IPSC but carry a Glock and it is the 19 with night sights. I do very well with in the IDPA with the 19 and feel very very confident with it and the 15 CorBon 115 Gr +P+ puppies in there. I like a more full size grip as on the 19. As much as I like the Glock, and I do, my personal opion is that they are a bit wide to make much sence in the micro sizes. The M19 is a really nice package, fairly small with a full 4" tube and a full 15 round mag, and reliable as the day is long.

p.s. in the IPSC matches there are tons of box stock Glocks shooting every Sunday, about you see are the Glocks and some almost unrecognizable variant of a 1911 with ten to twenty holes in a two to three inch comp with a 28 round mag and a red dot scope (that may have dish tv), that is shooting a 38 Super at .357 magnum power with zero muzzle flip and no kick, and now with pretty paint jobs. So considering there are soooo many Glocks in that crowd should tell you something.

The correct answer is-H&K USP. In 9mm Fullsize.

Built like tanks, shoot like dreams. So accurate out of the box it's scary, and torture tested in a manner which would trash most other guns, if not all.

Hicaps usually are no more expensive than Glock's factory mags. I've compared the two, and the USP is the answer. also, if your hand fits the Beretta 92F grip, you'll have no trouble with the USP. Find a range where you can rent one, or a friend who will let you borrow one. You should be very impressed. I'm impressed enough that I'm buying soley HK USP's from now on for handguns, they are the ones to beat, IMHO.

Most of the named are fine firearms. Personally I'd go with a CZ75 or Browning Hi-Power. If you are on a budget (or want three fine pistols for the price of one HK USP or Sig P226 :) look at the aforementioned HS2000 as well as the Hungarian (FEG brand) High Power Pistols. I've got a $200 FEG PJK that consistently outshoots Glock 17 and 19, Sig P226. Magazines are cheap compared to most other pistols too.

The CZ75B military model is a steal at $350 or less.
