It seems that nearly every week someone starts a thread asking for a bourbon recommendation, to ask what others are drinking, etc. I thought it would be nice to have an ongoing thread where people can ask questions, post pictures, share information, reviews and more.
Tonight, I’m starting off by finishing off the last of a bottle of an entry level bourbon, Old Forester 86 proof. I keep quite a few varieties on hand including a couple lower proof budget bourbon for making cocktails for my wife and guests. I bought a couple of bottle today and needed to make room in my cabinet so I’m emptying these last of a couple of these basic pours. For a $20 bourbon, OF86 is not bad at all. Nice spicy vanilla on the nose with a hint of floral. Smooth and slightly sweet on the tongue as you might expect from the lower proof. Very short finish with a bit of lingering cinnamon. I will rep Old Crow on this board until I die. For $23 1/2 gal its the best deal around if you have a serious bourbon habit.

Recently acquired a bottle of Elijah Craig 18 and Willet 12. Also have a shot at Knob Creek 15 to add to my rare stocks. However I’ve been enjoying Eagle Rare primarily.

Drinking Larceny tonight, but I also like Rebel Yell and Old Crow Reserve.

Blantons and Woodford are 2 of my faves. Evan William's for every day drinking.
I know it's not technically Bourbon, but I've really been digging Bulliet Rye recently. |

I really like old forester . I think it ranks up with Woodford or basil. It used to be really cheap (like 16 dollars) I think people discovered how good it is.

"an entry level bourbon, Old Forester 86 proof"
It may be an "entry level bourbon", but Old Forester is a solid bourbon that has been well received at competition tastings over the years. 2020 San Francisco Spirits Competition Attached File B- Bronze S-Silver GG-Double Gold The OF 86 proof is my house bourbon. Fortunately my palate doesn't require Van Winkle and I don't seek self-affirmation. |

Second bottle down. Four Roses Small Batch. Another bargain bourbon. Definitely more complex than the OF with a nice cherry cinnamon spice finish.

Generally a really good value though and I continue to buy it. |

Anyone have a recommendation for a good and easy to find bourbon? Virginia’s fine state-run ABC stores near me have been picked dry in recent months, and I feel like I’ve run through all of the usual suspects. Not picky at all, and doesn’t have to be anything fancy—just would be nice to try something different and not damn near impossible to find.

Fell in love hard for BSB 103.
Standard fare is Old Grandad BiB or 114, Old forester 100 and rye, Evan Williams white label. Got some Larceny, old overholt, Henry Mckenna and some EV 1783 on the shelf. Originally Posted By avex: Was drinking Heaven Hill BiB, might switch to something from Wild Turkey. Either Russell's Reserve single barrel store pick or Rare Breed.. I'm drinking Old Forester 100 right now. I hate it. Not nearly enough oak, weird aftertaste.
Soon I'll switch to something from 1792, which I also hate. Too thin and fruity. Wish I had some WT101, or Ezra Brooks on hand. |

And we tried Old Fitz 10 year and it was good, along the lines of a McKenna or a EC. I still prefer wheated bourbons. |
