Here’s something a bit different in the world of auto auctions. Classic Italian sports cars or American muscle can offer some delectable eye candy, but this 1944 Dodge WC-57 isn’t what you’d call a looker. It does, however, hold a significant place in history as it was specially modified for – and used by – General George Patton and used during World War II. And it’s going up for auction soon at no reserve.
Worldwide Auctioneers will offer this significant piece of military history at its Americana Festival & Auction in Auburn Indiana, running June 12-13. This specific vehicle is presented with a well-documented history going back to the 1950s when it was acquired by a collector in Belgium. It was eventually put on display in a museum, during which it was reportedly verified that, during the war, it was assigned to General Patton’s motor pool. It was purchased as part of a collection in 2000 by Dean Kruse of Kruse Auction fame and brought stateside, where it was on display in the Kruse Foundation WWII Victory Museum for several years.
