I have a couple of questions.  1 can I transfer(sell) a C&R gun to someone without doing the background chech thing.  2 How do I record a sale in my bound book?  ATF

Dude!  With a handle like "ATF" I doubt you'll get many replies to that question! [:O]

There's lots of information available on the ATF website, but you have to do a lot of digging to find it all.

C&R FAQ

Gun Control Act of 68

Note: Search for '(f) Firearms receipt' to go to the specific section.

1) You can sell a C&R gun and treat it like any other private sale as long as you record it's disposition in your bound book.  In other words, if it's local, just sell it and record the necessary information.  If it's interstate, it has to either go through an FFL or to a C&R holder (and again, record it's disposition info).

2) Just read the above 'GCA or 68' and 'Bound Book Format' links.  Basically, enter the date, name and address (or name and license no), date of birth (if non-licensee), and driver's license or other ID (if non-licensee).  The easiest thing to do is to order the 'FIREARMS RECORD BOOKS' from www.brownells.com.  The best thing about the book from Brownells is that it gives examples.  Just find something else you want, because the book is only $3.00, but the shipping will end up costing more.

Hope this helps some.

I have a C&R.  I love it.  Not hard at all to keep the bound book.  It was easy to put together, and the regulations state what information needs to be included with each entry.  If you like those type of firearms it is a great idea.  No more hasseling your local FFL for ordering.

When you receive your C&R make a few dozen copies.  Then sign the COPIES, NOT the original.

Don't forget to send a copy of your FFL to Brownells.  They give you a discount on most of their items.  I think it averages 20% or so.
