How the hell do you screw off a f/s on an M4 upper?  I put canvas around it and used a wrench- no movement at all.

Any suggestions?

Maybe is it a pinned phantom or vortex?

Forgot to finish. If it's not, then you maybe just need a bigger wrench so to speak. The FS does not need to be overly tight but sometimes folks will torque the hell out of them.

It's not pinned or welded and it's not a vortex or phantom- it's an A2.

I don't have a hair dryer.  Frikin thing is on there tight as sh*t.  Any other suggestions.

I'll try a bigger wrench . . .

F/S is only supposed to be torqued to 20 ft/lbs., which is not that tight.  It's either been overtorqued or perhaps someone used Loctite on it.  Having said that........
heat the F/S with a propane torch, then chill the barrel with a little cold water or chunk of ice.  The temp difference should expand the F/S and contract the barrel enough to unscrew the F/S..[smash]
