Pre-scare ribeye steak was $11.99/lb here, now it's $5.98/lb. I've had steak every other night for the past week.

Prices have yet to change here in AZ. Been to COSTCO, Safeway, and Walmart.

Sucks for the cattle industry, though. The prices here haven't fluctuated yet. They didn't go up due to the "Atkins" trend recently and they haven't gone down from the Mad Cow BS. Looks like a wash here. Going grocery shopping tomorrow and the freezer is empty is beef is cheap [:D]

Went out to dinner last night and the restaurant had rib eye for the nightly special. It was delicious. That mad cow disease gives the beef a really nice flavor.

Kpel308, the markets on live and feeder cattle were up about a dollar today. Seems the mad cow scare may not have been as bad as expected. But it's early yet, still could go south...EAT BEEF.. fullclip

Prices at Sam's, Wal-Mart, Safeway, Albertsons, King Soopers and K-Mart remained the same today as 2 weeks ago.

They are taking advantage of the customers. They are paying far less now then what they are charging.

I got a slab of nystrip for 3.60lb 2 weeks ago.
Saw Ribeye slabs for 3.87lb today.

And price are expected to drop next week. [banana]

US cattle price futures raises 3 cents a pound today, just heard it on fox..

HUH???? The USDA Texas/Oklahoma weighted Steer average was off about $16 per hundred weight from a week ago. ($200.00 per head) Cattle feeders are at about break even today.

The local Albertsons had to pull all of the processed frozen hamburger meat off the shelves because it came from the same plant at the same time as the mad cow.

Just to be sure they pulled all of the beef out of the store and restocked it with some organic stuff at almost twice the price.

True. but remember, the price iJan 2002 was around $67.00 and the Jan 2003 price was around $73.00. Todays was about $74.50. Still up from last year and starting to climb.

currently sales are slow because of the time of year. Cattle are still on grass and wheat getting ready for feedlots. Couple of more monthe will tell a lot more.. fullclip

My neighbor, who is from the UK, invites us over for a cookout see. Throws this big hunk of beef on the grill, burns[flame]it for about an hour then says dinner is served! Worst piece of so called London broil I ever had. I in turn had a nice BBQ for them a few weeks later with some choice rib-eyes, nice and rare and seared good on the outside, with my special seasonings. Ummmm so good he still marvels at my grilling skills. This fall he gets to help roast a pig at our annual dove shoot. Yeeeehawwww!

Ok, WHO pissed off the cows? They're mad for a reason and I want to know that reason!

Damn, cows have BFE (Mad Cow) and E-coli, Chickens have salmonella, Hogs have trichinosis, and fish have too much mercury.

The only safe thing to eat is lamb and beaver.. Oh wait, beaver can ruin your life too [:D]

Beerslayer...that first pics would be brangus, would it? It look slike it has a little bit of ear to it. I LIke my herefords a bit more than them black ones. I'm actually going to make out. SOld the cattle I had when prices were high this fall. I needed to make some fence improvements, so I plan on getting some here in the next month or so.

Indeed Cattle traded at $74.81 Friday, but last week It was $88.00-90.00. The Packers are almost all running short work weeks so cattle could start backing up which will drive the prices even lower. Who knows what will happen to the Cow market.
