EHilderbrand - Congrats, bud... I bought one of the laminated stocked SAR-1s a little while ago, and am very happy with the purchase... I hope you like yours as much as I do mine...

HillBillySasquatch - I think SOG is selling 'em for $310 plus shipping and FFL, currently...

Very nice wood on that one. Did you refinish the original or is that new?

I went another route with my SAR-1:

I do not really use the Kobra much though.

Damned reliable weapons.

I paid quite a bit more than I would have liked to, $486.88 after tax and the NICS check, but I am happy with the product I recieved.

This makes two SAR-1's and a Bulgarian SLR. I love AK's.[:)]

Congrats on the new "baby." How do you like that wire "used-to-be" folding stock?

I bought my SAR-1 in Oct. Refinished the laminated stocks on it. I'm really pleased with it.

Check out this place, Romanian Kalashnikov Rifles , it's loaded with a ton of good info.

Five0, I will be going that route with my SAR eventually. This is how it came from Romania, stock like this, except for the 5 US parts. The wood on it isn't too bad. Although, it will soon be Polymer. Could anyone identify the scope mount on the side? Is is a Russian pattern?

I bought mine at a gun show about two years ago. The thing that amazes me about these guns is when you open one up, the parts look like they were made with a hammer and chisel. Mine runs great and is a blast to shoot. Wolf ammo runs through it like shit through a goose. 2,000+ rounds down range and it has yet to jam.

The wire stock is mediocre. It's not flimsy like I'd expected. Although, it is a bit short because I have long arms and it feels a little strange, but I can deal for now. I only picked her up about 4 hours ago, haven't gotten to shoot it yet. Probably in a few days whenever I can.

I got me one of those Romaks.  Mine was $300.  Not terribly accurate, but lots of fun to shoot and extremely easy to bumpfire.

HOw much do those folding stocks cost?  I've wanted one for quite a while.

Yes it is the standard AK side mount. There are numerous scopes, optics and mounts for that platform. Pretty slick, actually.

I have a SAR-2 I stuck one of those stocks on...took it to the range exactily once.

No real cheek weld, and the metal was damn cold. I swapped it back with my plastic K-Var stock as soon as I got back home. Wasn't nearly as comfortable as the normal full stock.

I need to get a normal full stock SAR-1 now...I have an old Norinco underfolder, but it's not the most comfortable thing to shoot, either. A full-stocked one would probably work a lot better for me...
