Worse single night of my life. I was on duty and had falled about 20 feet into the main machinery room of the USS Abraham Lincon and in the process of observing the effects of gravity caught the toes of my right foot on a pipe pushing them somewhere too far north of where they were designed to go ... ouch!
Six weeks on crutches, over three years with a pretty pronounced limp and constant pain pills. It's only been six months now that I've been able to do any serious walking without pain. Put on nearly 30 pounds since the accident too [:(] Damn, it's been four years now ... |

I had to work. They wanted everyone there just in case everything did crash. They had a big spread of food out for everyone. We ate good.

I can proudly say.. I was ready.
I relocated to a fenced ranch 100 miles from Houston. I Actually packed up and moved for a month. It was a nice sabbatical [:)] Y2K opened my eyes to how we are incredibly dependent on society. I have learned to become more independent, efficient and defensively ready for whatever may come to pass. and the learning didn't stop at 2000.. it's a life time commitment for me now. There was over a trillion spent to divert Y2K worldwide. |

Future Mrs. and I were ON CALL for the Y2K fiasco non-happening ALL f*cking night!!!
We joked all night about the biggest non-event in IT history... yes some can argue all the work before avoided it... all the way to the bank. |

nope...I wish...was at work with the rest of the IT department on conference call with the IT guys in the rest of the world (53 offices worldwide) making sure things went smoothly and watching all the celebrations across the world on a 19 inch TV in the conf room...memories.

I was watching the BALL drop at the Hyatt Hotel in Downtown Chicago; located at Wacker Drive & Michigan Avenue. I was watching the fireworks and having a great time - it was a memorable evening for sure...

I was barely 18 and playing Counter-Strike for Half-Life at the stroke of midnight. Didn't even realize it had turned 12:00AM till 12:05. A week later, I got my AR-15! Still got her and she's never let me down.

I put up a weeks food and water and had 20 gallons of K1 to keep the pipes from freezing. I figured Y2K to be a bust, but minor preparations were prudent. I can't see why anyone would be "loading mags". Even if the power did go off there would have been plenty of time to get ready for any major social disturbance.

I was 60 miles outside of town with MRE's, guns and ammo. I had a generator, 1000 gallons of propane. I was well prepared.
But I wasn't worried about the computers, I was worried about the people. Luckily everyone stayed calm. BTW, I still keep, guns, ammo, MRE's, water, propane and generators. I have added solar power & battery backups. Again I worry about the people. |

I was in year three of law school at the ole U of M living on campus in a really nice townhouse, a bathtub full of water in case things went bad for a day, and an M1 and 1911 in case they went bad full time.
The U had its own reactor, JIC! How cool was that? |

Sitting in my Dad's living room watching areas around the world celebrate the new year without power outages. Teri and I had some fireworks, she was visiting from ID, she thought it was great that at 2am she got to see Boise celebrating the new year.

She was worried about food and drink long term, and I showed her a few k rounds of 5.56 and our ARs. I think she was more upset when she figured out my really long term plan then she was worried about not having what was needed. |

I was at a cabin on a river in Northern California. [s]I'd been behind enemy lines for well over a week, but they werent on to me...[/s] err, I mean I was at this big party with family friends.
They all got drunk and threw firecrackers at eachother. I took an empty bottle of '96 Silver Oak and filled it with coke, vinegar, hot sauce, salt, bunch of stuff. Then I put it back on the wine table all sneaky like. Five minutes later, two women came over to refill their glasses and saw the Silver Oak. They looked around to make sure no one else saw they had the last of the good stuff. They each filled their glasses and chugged it. They almost puked right there, it was so awesome. So that's what I was doing 4 years ago. I played some Nintendo too. |

Drank too much, almost got in a fight with a dude at a party because I kept prodding him with the business end of a plunger.
I was making a lot of money that year so I drank nothing but champagne that night. Oh god, dont ever do that. Not just the hangover but the whole GI track paid the price. |
