From the state of Ma.:

Slingshot on Banned Weapons List
If you bought your kid a "Supremo Slingshot" for the holidays, get it and bring it back to the store for a refund. That's the advice from Attorney General Tom Reilly, who says the dangerous slingshot is one of several weapons covered under the state's prohibited weapons law. The slingshot cannot be sold in the state, and neither can brass knuckles, throwing stars, sword canes and switchblade knives. The "Toys 'R' Us" national chain agreed to make full refunds for the slingshots after being contacted by state authorities. The toy retailer is also removing the slingshot from its shelves and website.

Sheer madness.. This will force the black market into action. You know, where people will be cutting forked branches from trees and cutting up old inner-tubes and making unregistered slingshots..Stat now and ban trees, for the children... fullclip

Actually aren't squirt guns that "look" like "real" guns already banned in some states?  This crap really needs to stop....[pissed]

Sling shots have been banned in MA for a long time, as have BB guns for kids under 16(?) unless they have an adult present, and BTW, crossbows are illegal too- unless one is a handicapped hunter.

Don't ask me why. Logic is not a part of the lawmaking culture in MA. Pandering to scared, ill-informed, whiny suburbanites is, however.

If I weren't from here, I wouldn't be here.

The WMD in question:

Price: $4.99

Manufacturer or Distributor:
Prime Time Toys Ltd., Hong Kong

Purchased: Toys R Us

Age Recommendation: "Ages 8+"

Warnings: "Never Aim Balls at Another Person's Face or an Animal. Do Not Shoot Anything Other Than the Balls Provided. Play in a Wide Open Area."

HAZARD: POTENTIAL FOR EYE INJURIES!

W.A.T.C.H. OUT! This slingshot is capable of forcefully firing the balls with which it is sold, which themselves have the potential to cause serious eye injuries. The manufacturer claims that this weapon "can only launch foam balls", yet it also cautions: "Do Not Shoot Anything Other Than the Balls Provided". It is illegal for slingshots to be sold in Massachusetts1. In fact, as recently as December, 2000, as the result of WATCH's efforts and alert to the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General, Toys R Us took steps to "prevent the sale" of slingshots by its stores. Unfortunately, this retailer has not learned its lesson. Toy manufacturers and buyers should be aware of and abide by the laws which specifically prohibit the sale of such items. Other states, such as California, Florida and Illinois have similar statutes, and at least 13 other states proscribe the use, possession and/or sale of such dangerous weaponry.
