Just on the local news in KC. At the Lake City plant near here. Manufacturing the .50 BMG round. Round has been made and is being mechanically transported to the next(inspection)stage of the manufacturing process. Round becomes stuck in piece of machinery. Genius candidate uses hammer to dislodge .50 cal round stuck in machine. Round does what it was built to do, goes BOOM! Three transported to hospital with unknown injuries.
Just gotta say, WTF was he thinking???

Pretty dumb.  Too bad the other 2 were hurt, but I have little sympathy for him.

[injured worker] I swear it was in the S.O.P. [/injured worker]

Anytime someone gets injured while working it is a bummer.  I hope all of them have a speedy and full recovery.

Another reason why the Military has so many safety warnings dealing with Ordnance items, most of the warnings so F@#$ing common sense but number of Darwin candidates seems infinite!!!!

I wish I were still in EOD at times, I could have posted endless amounts of Darwin Award Candidates here from safety reports and experiences from my unit and sister units!!!!  Like idiots biting blasting caps, etc! [smash]

Why was there a hammer there within easy reach anyway?  Ouch.

While for some a Darwin candidate. Really just another fine example of job security for me.

The hammer was there for when rounds got stuck; the guy had probably done the same thing a few hundred times.

Now you know why there are dents in LC ammo.

I see no problem... if it can't be fixed with a hammer, it can't be fixed.

Just guessing, but, it probably happens infrequently and that's probably how they usually handle it.

I do not feel bad for the idiot.  But do for the others envolved.

But do you see also you should feel bad for all of the shooters that use LC.  Now the prices could go up because of a rise in their insurance premiums.

I heard an even better one involving 2 idiots at the MacAllister ammunition plant and "swordfighting" with two rods of Comp B

his only mistake was using a hammer when the obvious right tool choice would have been duct tape.

They found the problem....the hammer was manufactured by Glock.

Nobody reads the words these days, a 30 second video of what happens to you if you screw it up would be a better attention grabber.  (like those pictures of mangled limbs posted above the urinals on base.)

He obviously screwed up some industrial version of tap-rack-bang

No- I disagree- Windex or WD-40 would have solved it.

And the police officer would have gone home safely to his family.

(Whoops- wrong thread[:D])
