Goldfinger is the classic. For Your Eyes Only is the best of the Moore (Live and Let Die gets a nod, as well as the opening of the Spy Who Loved Me)
Timothy Dalton was as close to the Bond in the books as any of them. He suffered from shitty scripts.
George Lazenby did quite well with On Her Majesty's Secret Service (note, I skied that mountain in Switzerland. It was like a pilgramage)
The first four bond films (Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, and Thunderball) are all considered the classics. The attempt at outer space failed miserably in You Only Live Twice. Broccoli blamed Connery and brought Lazenby in. Then brought Connery back for Diamonds are Forever.
Then Moore for Live and Let Die, followed by The Man With the Golden Gun, Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, and Octopussy. Then Dalton, then Brosnan.
Some Trivia notes
Moore is older than Connery
The first James Bond movie was a made for TV with David Niven playing Bond. Woody Allen was in it as well as Orson Wells. The movie was Casino Royale (Also the first bond book)
The charactor of Dr. Evil is based on Donald Pleasance's portrayal of Blofelt in You Only Live Twice.
Connery did a remake of Thunderball called, "Never Say Never" While a bond film, it wasn't done by the broccolis and sucked. He was OLD!
Brosnan was suppossed to replace Moore, but couldn't get free from "Remington Steele"
