Painted the plastic handguard on top of my M1a flat black? The stock looks so good and then you see this cheap POS plastic piece that is a gross brown color.

i was thinking of painting it black just so it matches the barrel.

Get you a cheap GI Fiberglass stock and PAINT IT BLACK!  They're only about $20 bucks these days.  It's lighter and doesn't swell with moisture/humidity.....and it shoots better than a wood stock.  Keep your wood brown stock/handguard for presentation and just get a new set of GI Fiberglass.

I'm currently collecting parts to build a NM M14, I already acquired a new stock......WOODLAND MARPAT!

Unthinkable for me!!

The M-14 that I carried in the service in the 60’s had that same chocolate brown fiberglass handguard.  That’s what it’s supposed to look like!!

Still, it’s your rifle. Paint it if you like.

My SA M1A Bush Rifle came from the factory with a black fiberglass stock and a black handguard.  It also had a black rubber shoulder pad at the end of the buttstock.  I went to a gun show and found a steel buttplate and swapped it.  It shoots great and has a very high LCF (Looks Cool Factor).

Bottom line:  do it.

It's yours to do with what you want.

We had a guy on the team that had a all black rifle, he burned his cheek on it at a match when the temp got 110 in the shade.

Sounds like a good idea, but why not look for a wood replacement first?

I have a M1A1 factory folder - black plastic, cheap looking to me but seriously evil.  I like the camo stocks though, dropped a Garand into one the other day...
