Yep, I felt it too, I'm living 10 miles east of L.A. I thought my monitor was going boonkers.
I'm in San Bernardino. My building (on 'rollers') shook for over one full minute. My guess is it was a big quake many miles from here.
Here in Pt. Mugu area (hour northwest of L.A.). It was strong.
I am in OC. Didn't feel a thing... just yet.
Why oh why can't this be San Francisco? |
Lived in Hollywood in'94 - I remember the Northridge quake like it was yesterday. That was a 6.7 and that really screwed up LA for a long time.
Have the media reported if they have ruled out terrorism yet ?
Yes, I am being sarcastic ! |
I am in North San Diego (Rancho Bernardo) and I did not feel a thing. I am really good at feeling earthquakes too.
Sounds like it was out of San Siemon (SP?). The California people might reconize of this as where the Hurst Castle is. |
My GF was stepping on her plane and the quake hit. She said she thought it was the engine coming on, then they announced what had happened. She's "excited" about her first CA quake.
It's Cinemax's fault! They aired "Volcano" last night. Don't tempt mother nature!

I felt here, while at work in Sunnyvale, CA - about 150-200 miles away!

I was on ARFCOM and felt it here in Bakersfield, about 300 miles away from SF. It was a rolling type earthquake that lasted 20-30 seconds. Ceiling fans were shaking, water in my pool splashing around. Never really get used to it.
It occurred in Central CA along the coast near San Simeon.

So is Kommiefornia gonna fall off into the ocean yet? Hey, Santa, if you are reading this, ocean front property in AZ would be just lovely. [;)]

Fox is locked in on LAX
Guess that is the only camera they have. |
Has anybody looked at the Drudge Report ... You'd think that Matt Drudge wanted you to think that the state has just fallen into the ocean.

For us that grow up in Ca. do you remember getting under your desk in school when the hanging lights would swing?
Like that would have done any good. |

Quoted: Fox is locked in on LAX Guess that is the only camera they have. View Quote I wonder how many network executives and reporters "creamed" their pants after hearing the news. I've been listening to a radio station on the internet (KGO-AM810, out of San Francisco). They're grasping at straws to find injuries and chaos.. it's really funny. They almost sound disappointed when they interview somebody and they report that all is fine and it wasn't a big deal. |

6.5 near San Simeon. The MIL felt it in Mountain View, but we did not feel it up here in the Walnut Creek area.

RichinCM: See what you missed? All of this earthquake excitement when you moved from Orange County,Calif. to Virginia.

Felt it here in Aptos, CA.
The dog we have in this office went nuts about five minutes before, the admin thought she just needed a walk, so she takes her out into the parking lot on a leash. Then the building shakes for about 10, maybe 15 seconds, not much, but noticable. UPS had just left and I had thought that somebody upstairs had dropped one of the two big boxes they had just delivered down the stairs. Didn't think too much about it until my girlfriend IM'ed me saying she can't get through to her folks - they live in Cambria. As they say... Developing. -Gator |

Didn't feel a thing in Rialto.
Paul, we definitely need to hook up for a local shoot. |

Reports of injuries and building damage coming in.
People trapped in a two story building. The Clock Tower at Paso Robles has collapsed and damage to Hurst castle being reported. |
No wonder I didn't feel it. It's way up north. In CENTRAL California. I don't know why they're calling it by SOCAL... not even close to being SOCAL. About 280 mile from Paul & I.
The U.S. Geological Survey gave it a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 and said it was centered north of the coastal town of Cambria. Cambria is in San Luis Obispo County, about 185 miles northwest of Los Angeles. View Quote |

I felt it in Pasadena while I was in class
I just thought someone was shaking the desk for awhile and then everyone looked around and noticed it was a earthquake.. |

Now KNBC is reporting that a whole block of historic buildings in old town Paso Robles has had their first floors collapse.

Bad news to report guys, California's black eye isn't going to be falling into the ocean. A scientist from the USGS said the ocean floor is actually slipping under the mainland, forcing it upwards; instead of creating a massive "swimming party" scenario.

Yeah Paso got whacked pretty good. (if you see the pictures you'll se why I said I was nervous in Petersburg in the VA quakes threads) Mission San Antonio almost right on top reported no damage. Wonder how Mission San Miguel took it. They were hitting up the touristas for $$ for earthquake repairs and retrofit last time I was up there.
It's SoCal only if you compare it to Eureka. Probably about midway between LA and SF. Reports are State Route 46 got some pretty bad cracking and settling. |
Now reporting one fatality and several people still trapped in the collapsed buildings.
Trouble with gas leaks hampering rescue efforts. http://www.nbc4.tv/news/2721021/detail.html Photos http://www.nbc4.tv/news/2721021/detail.html |

My Mother just spoke to her friend in Cambria. Minimal structural damage (her son is FD) most of the buildings are newer and wood frame. A few cracks in the plaster from things twisting some and just about everything that could have been thrown out of cabinets and cupboards was.
Paso Robles looks like it got smacked pretty hard by the quake.
Nice town. |
The 3 fatalities are in Paso Robles and were located in the same collapsed building. Shown below:

All the local TV's websites, from Santa Maria and San Louis Obisbo, have nothing of value, just repeating wire reports.
KGO is from San Francisco I think and they got their pictures from their chopper on CNN. |
