I went with a baking cookbook and my traditional gift, the bible verse of the day calendar. I have given her one of these for the last 10 years or so.

Is your mom religous?

I bought my mother some perfume. And I got my step mother some room sprays.

Get her a candle and a nice holder. You can never go wrong, most women like candles.

She needs to get off her ass and do something...hell, she's only 65.

2 pieces of Ruby Moon & Stars patterned glassware by LE Smith (she collects the stuff).  Oh, and her stocking stuffer is a 4-heart wood hanging of the bathroom rules (she collects heart-shaped stuff too).  I seriously doubt either of those items will help you in your search.

I got mine a $100 gift certificate at B. Dalton; she LOVES to read, and this way she can get a bunch of books that SHE wants.

The company I work for has a lot stuff my mom likes, so she kind of "requests" that I get her some gift certificates to the different stores we own.  I always get her something else to supplement the gift certificates, as I hate to just give those.   Last year I got her a glass bowl for floating candles, and of course, the candles to go w/ it.  She loves it.

That's outstanding.  Taking a person to their 1st race is like taking a kid to Disneyland.  I went to my 1st race last year, and was smiling from ear to ear.

Same tihng she got me... not a damn thing!
but at least i didn't burn all her belongings!

however, i did get my stepmother sometihng interesting. It's a stainless steel coffee tumbler with a built in strainer of sorts. you fill the cup with hot water and tea leaves of coffee grounds. Then, you push the strianer plunger down and it keeps all the grounds and leave at the bottom. no electricity needed. great for if you're on the run. all you need is warm water.

Me, too.  That was one of her gifts last year, too... she'd never had a cell phone before and now the woman is hooked!

I also got her a crockpot (her request) and a few other things.  I wasn't able to get it done in time but I took a picture of her favorite dog, Job, and am going to have a very talented young artist I know create a pencil drawing from it.

A really nice rug from Orvis showing different wildlife, and it said "NOEL" in the background.  Then we had a huge platter custom made to match the rug. Gave it to her on Thanksgiving.  She freakin' loved it!!!

A month before she had pointed out the rug to my wife.  She was really surprised!!
