What do you wanna bet the pistol Saddam had on him was a venerable Browning Hi-Power?

The Browning H-Power is or has been used by the police and military of over 60 countries since it's introduction. It's no suprise that Saddam was seen carrying one over the years.

One or both of his sons carried a Hi-Power, and if I remember correctly, one gold inlaid copy was found at a Presidential palace.

You too, could also own this reliable and highly accurate weapon, perfect for waving around at discos and shouting “Ali Akbar!” [;)]

When Uday's palace was raided, the looters had already taken a bunch of weapons.  One of the things I noticed right away on the news was all these empty Beretta boxes.  I wouldn't put it past him to have a non-issue weapon of his choice.

I didn't know Saddam was in "Heat"?!?!?!

...In other news today, actor Al Pachino was found hiding in a hole in his home town of Tikrit.

My brother was in Operation Desert Storm. He said that they uncovered bunkers in the sand the size of high school gymnasiums that were filled with Berretta 92's stamped in Arabic.

Jennings/Bryco P-32.

It later came out that he tried to use it but broke the striker as he pulled the trigger.

IIRC, the Hi Power is Iraq's service pistol...

The question is, how long untill 'Saddam's Hi Powers' are floating around on Gunbroker next to 'Hitler's PPKs'

Based on what I've seen of the family's collection, I'd have to guess it was a gold-plated Lorcin .380.

If it was a Hi-Power what are the chances that it was actually a FEG Hungarian knock-off?

They carry a bunch of different types over here. The two main pistols you find though are FNC high powers....there are a few knock offs but most are actually FN.  Then there are a shit load of "Tariq's"  They are a version of the beretta.  It's a single stack, single action only, licensed by beretta but made in Iraq pistol.  You also find a shitload of of colt revolvers, markarovs(7.62) and the other russian pistol (I forget what it's called) but it's a 9x18mm.  They basically carry what ever the hell they can get there grimmy little hands on.  Shitheads always seem to take the buttstock off the AK's too. Don't know why, guess it's a "cool guy" thing. Doesn't bother me though, the less acurate the better. Most of these chicken shits are too stupid to aim at us anyway when they shoot.

So anyway, my money is on a high power...the handgun of choice over here.  Don't worry though....we just bought a shit load of Glocks for their police so I guess that will be the new pistol of choice over here.  With the way these guys always walk around with their finger on the trigger it won't be long before they have a Neg. discharge and kill someone.  Oh well.

It was a forlorn end for Saddam, without any Fedayeen bodyguards to protect him and no rescue party, just two companions who ran away to be caught later.

Saddam did not use the Makarov pistol tucked into the his belt, or the two AK47 Kalashnikov semi-automatic rifles he had.

Nevertheless, he was searched for any cyanide capsules he may have had in his mouth or hidden in his matted hair before being flown away for interrogation.
