Lowey's answer to you, while ill informed, seems to be genuine.

At first blush, it would appear that way. The funny part however, is that I never made the "assault weapons are just scary looking guns that are suitable for hunting & other sporting purposes" argument in any of the letters that I sent her, nor did I ever mention that "assault weapons" account for a statistically insignificant number of the guns used in the commission of crime (both valid points, BTW).
I almost always argue on the basis of our RKBA being a God given, unalienable right that is acknowledged by TBOR, and as such, it is incumbent upon our elected reps. that they respect their oaths to uphold & defend the Constitution. I just went back in my files, and sure enough, all my letters to Lowey thus far are based on philosophical & political arguments.
So... it would appear that her office staff either mixed up my correspondence with someone else’s, & I got their reply, or (& much more likely, IMO) she is sending out form letters regarding the AW ban.
***None of this should be construed as a reason not to write our reps. Trust me... our message is getting through!***
BTW, here is where I send all my letters...
