Madrid is great but expensive. Try to stay in the Paradors. These are Spain's "official" hotels. They are 5 star and relatively inexpensive.
I would skip Casablanca. It is largely an industrial city. If you decide to go to Morocco, go to Marrakech. Beware the abject poverty and hard sell merchants. Are you going to Morocco with your girlfriend/wife? If so, be prepared for a lot of stares. She will definitely not be able to go out without a male escort. If it were me, I would skip Morocco and focus on Spain and Portugal. The Spanish are very friendly and it is extremely inexpensive to visit. How soon are you going? |

I lived in Spain for 15 years and I traveled extensively through Europe and Africa. If you can, get to the south of Spain, Seville, Granada, Ronda, Malaga and all of La Costa del Sol. If you're strapped for time visit Granada, Ronda and Seville. Barcelona and Madrid are o.k. if you like big cities. Portugal is beautiful and the people are extremely nice. If you're going to Morocco, you'll probably cross over from Algecira to Ceuta, a small Spanish colony in Africa. Be sure to save some cash (in dollars) for this part of the trip, Ceuta is a Free port, and you can find incredible deals. Morocco is a whole different world hot, sticky and smelly don't stray far from your group or you GF.

Stopped in Zaragosta on our way to Saudi Arabia. C5A had troubles and we stayed for the night. Absolutely loved it.
