Its about Waffen SS troopers that escaped Europe after WWII, joined the French Foreign Legion, and kicked the hell out of the Viet Minh in Vietnam.  I can't put it down, I almost called in sick to work to stay at home and read it.  I went over to a buddy's house yesterday to watch his Stoner 63 video and he brought out all three books in the series and let me borrow them.  Anyone else read these?  They should have left these guys in Nam, they killed the shit out of the commies!

Sounds pretty interesting, I might look into it.

Also, where did you buddy get the Stoner 63 Video, I happen to have a fascination with that weapon, and would love to have a video about it, etc.

He got the video from a doctor in FL that collects Stoners, apparently he met him at Knob Creek.  It features a Navy Seal explaining the way the weapon works, modular configurations, and his experiences using it in Vietnam, but I guess there are none left.  Those Devil's Guard books are also rare too.  I did a search because I want my own copies and found out they are out of print and that PAPERBACK copies of it routinely sell for hundreds of dollars, guess I'll be keeping them in my safe when I'm not reading them!

Hey, I read that one and the sequel... but I didn't know there were three books!

What's the third one called?

IIRC (it's been a long time since I read those books mind you) the second book wasn't as good as the first. But I'd read the third one just to complete the set.

The first book read like fiction. I seriously kept checking the spine to ensure it said "nonfiction" !

I have a friend who was in the Marine Corps and met these guys. Apparently you can stay in the Foreign Legion as long as you make PT, so they were still in in the mid 70s.

Read it about 15 years ago. Don't know how true it is, but it sounded authentic to me when I read it. Excellent story of combat in Southeast Asia before the US got involved there.
