Would anybody else here be interested in raising funds for a "abused children's charity", to be donated in the name of "AR15.COM"..?

Here's what I'm thinking:

I listen to *gasp* "Dr Laura most every afternoon, and have been listening to her tout her childrens charity, "The Dr. Laura Foundation", and the need for money for battered and abused children.

If we, as collective members, were to attempt raise a ton of money to contribute on behalf of "GUNOWNERS" (she has publicly proclaimed to be one of us), would any of you guys be interested..?

I'm thinking in the line of $10 - $25 per contributer, with the hopes of a couple hundred of us participating...  Please let me know your thoughts, good or otherwise!

Is this with "Dr"  Laura involved in any way?
Link Posted: 2/5/2001 7:13:57 AM EDT
[#2]
She would not be involved, unless others have better ideas than what I have expressed in my above post...
Link Posted: 2/5/2001 7:42:06 AM EDT
[#3]
If that hypocrite`s name is not involved, I will gladly give some cash. Set it up. it`s about time we fight fire with fire. Just make sure "a gun group" gets the credit.

[#4]
When I say she would not be involved, I meant not directly...

While she is "out there" at times with her level of hipocrasy, her foundation is what I was considering the donations for.

Her foundation is an excellant way for funds to be distributed directly to the kids with the "My Stuff" bags.  Kids need love, especially the ones that have never seen any!

If somebody has a better charity in mind, please toss it into the loop for very seroius consideration...  This is just the first one that came into my mind.  Besides, there would be a very good chance of our group being recognized on the air (for making a sizable contribution), while all the "soccer mom's" are listening during the afternoon drive-time.  That alone is worth any cost! [:D]

While I may come across to many of you as a SOB at times, my heart is definately in the right place whenever it comes to assisting others in need!

Great idea, (at least I think so) but there is no way I will give a dime to/by/for/in the nameof Dr. Laura.
Yes your heart seems to be going in the right direction.
I have no others to suggest, sorry.

I'll donate.

Is this group based in Kali?
I have heard of child-abuse charities turning down big money from second amendment groups out there.

Okay...  I'm back to the original mode (The Dr. Laura Foundation) -- http://www.drlaura.com/foundation/index.html?mode=view&tile=1&id=187

I just got off of the phone with them and they would be "happy" to receive funds from us.  The gentleman I spoke with had to check, but came back and said "COOL!"

I would love to set a goal for $10,000 (it could go a hell of a long way for caring for kids), and also realize that a goal of this nature would require us to raise a bunch of money, and then place a challenge to several of the other various boards as well!

I'm going to lead this off with $50, who else is up for it...

We will need 1 member of the highest standards to collect all of the funds (and report the totals collected) until such time as the funds are sent in to the foundation. I am nominating Ed Avila, Sr.

I don't mind Dr. Laura being involved indirectly. The liberals don't like her because of her views. Heck if she's an enemy of the liberals well I reckon I am to. Could you imagine giving money to the likes of Janet Reno, Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstein or that Boxer lady. I will be glad to give some money for abused children. I am presently unemployed but I can sell some mags or something to raise some money.

If you want this to be an ongoing thing, it's probably better to appoint a trustee. Check with some of the lawyers on the legal forum.

I just got off the phone w/ "SteveinVA", he is going to examine all of this and possibly donate his legal services and trust account that is setup for just this type of thing. Being a lawyer, he would be our best bet!

After he logs in this evening and looks all of this over very carefully, he will give his decision on helping...

OK Get me an address and I'll give

If it is "for the children" from gun owners I think it would send an strong message.

we just need to make it clear it is from gunowners so as not to have various groups arguing over credit.

I bet SAS and others would kick in too?

Put on your tux and do a Jerry Lewis for us  Anti!!

The more publicity we can get, the better. I know in the Bible it says it's better to remain anonymous (I think I read that), but in this case we need to send a message. So, I would offer if there is no policy to include us in the "list of contributors" on her web site (if she has one), we may want to look elsewhere.

Also, if somehow our contributions could be made tax deductable, that would be icing on the cake. Not a requirement, just icing.

There is good publicity and there is bad publicity. Dr.Laura is bad publicity. People give her the same respect that we give RodieO'Donnell. Dr.Laura is without any honor whatsoever and a hypocrite. I can't believe anitussa would associate with someone whose nude photos would be grounds for dismissal from the board. The idea of supporting a charity is great, but will be viewed in the same light as tobacco industry contributions and even worse with Doc Larry along for the ride. Since she's so wonderful can we post her pornographic pictures?
Link Posted: 2/5/2001 5:03:12 PM EDT
[#20]
Frankly, I'm not too fond of her either, but her charity is one of the best to come along in years.

Contrary to belief, it's not for her, it's for ABUSED, BATTERED and NEGLECTED CHILDREN, some of which have been sexually assaulted and brutalized nearly to the point of death...

As I pointed out initially, find a better charity, and we'll gladly donate to it -- I have heard lots of criticism, but not a single member has taken the opportunity to post anything about a similar group.  I'm guessing that there is a very large majority here that is just too self absorbed to care!
Link Posted: 2/5/2001 5:51:20 PM EDT
[#21]
Heck Yea, I'm in for a contribution to the kids, but i'm sure we can find a better spokesperson than Dr Laura.I just asked my wife if she could think of any good childrens charity's, she asked why? Her response..... If you give anything to that racist homophobic bigot i'll kill you and sell all your guns.but she did have a suggestion Of Make a wish foundition out of L.A. Calif.( answers the last wish of terminally ill children). Dont really know or care but I'm in for a donation.(preferably not with Dr. Laura) We gun owners do need some good publicity for a change. Considering Today in Melrose Park IL.(30 miles from home) A disgruntled employee at the International Harvester plant shot four people and then himself with an AK-47

What about The Pediatric AIDS Foundation? This is THE liberal pet cause and they would look real bad turning down support from any source. Not that battered, abused kids is not a good cause but this one doesn't come with questionable/objectionable people. And please don't call us self absorbed because we don't like your hypocrite(Doc) any better than their hypocrite(Rosie). Alot of members have pledged support despite her quasi involvement.

I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon. I would not suggest a minimum or suggested amount ANTI. Everyone here on the board has varying finacial means. Let them donate what they can afford.

Now about the Dr. Laura nude pics....if anyone feels the need to email them to me I believe it would help me form a better opinion of her [:D]

[#32]
Thanks Guys!

SGT 884:  The amount that I "suggested" was just what I would feel to be an average of what the various contributers would be in a position to donate, without putting a strain on anyone...  hell, If every member from all of the various boards were to kick in just $1.00, we could easily raise well over $25,000.

While I understand that some can only contribute $1.00, others may be in a position to contribute $100 or more...  Everyone has there own min/max when it comes to a specific charity.

* Another possibility would be to evenly divide the contributions up between a couple different organizations, but they will be watered down and have less impact.

Dr. Laura's battered kids is still my first choice!

The NRA could steer this in the right direction. If you want to do this right you might need there help. It would also send a message to the NRA, that we own AW`s and we want to be heard.

antiUSSA,

After talking this over with Chris (Owner of GUNSNET.NET), we have decided that we would support you on this.  I will tonight post this challenge on both of our boards; the AR15 and AK47 boards.

Just keep us informed to where the monies can be sent, also I am sure this well be discussed but some form of receipt, for those who would like to write this off at the end of the year.

You have my email address and you can add our links to this.

Tim, thanks for thinking about us,

DThor, go back to the site where you are a moderator.

www.ar15forums.com.

We all know that little site. One of your little cronies pops up every once and a while and trys to steal members from here.

BTW- The last paragraph of your most recent post was the most incohearent babble I have ever read. Dude, with every post, you prove my point.

You ain't on your home turf here, son.
Why don't you go back to that lame site where you belong?

Oh yeah. That's right. Maybe you are here because that site gets MAYBE 4 or 5 posts per day.

Lame.

hehe, Son I was here when you were in Diapers..  I suggest you refrain before you get in way over your head, cause you are in over your head Mclittleone.  Your trash talking will not get you far on this site either, Mclittleone.

As a matter of fact most people I know realy don't like your kind of tactics, I would suggest you watch yourself off this computer screen, cause your attitude gets people like you in deep doodoo.

Hey Don R, I see your work is really cut out for you here, hehe

Well, good luck with this little brat, cause we took care of him already.

Yeah, you illiterate dumbass.

With every post, you make an ass of yourself.

I would invite any AR15.com'er to go over to that site and see how that whole thing progressed.
Even though it was 4 or 5 days ago, i'm sure that it will still be on the first page of ar15Forums "General Discussion", considering your user volume.

Oh yeah. Quit trying to chum up with the moderators here. It is lame, and transparent.

You have the mind of a damn toddler, and your abillity to write shows this. You are repetitive, and ineloquent. You are the shame of AR15Forums.com, and I personally wouldn't ever be a member on a site where they allowed a fool such as yourself to moderate.

McUZI

Edited to tone it down.

Mclittleone,

I emailed you awhile back and you just plum ran away like the baby you are. [>Q]  Wouldn't return emails or anything.

You are the one that started this dickweed.  Just remember you haven't seen me at my best, but I have seen you. There comes a time when people like you just need to be flushed.

Don't start something you can't finish boy.  Lets take this off the site, I am sure we can work something out, hehe...  I know Tim and Don R would appreciate it, too.  Cause this is about helping children, NOT YOUR PERSONAL AGENDA....

I suggest you start acting like a member of this web site, boy.  I am sure Edward Sr. or Jr. don't appreciate it when trolls like you start to vomit on their web site like you have and/or anyone who is wiling to read or put up with your senseless posts.

I know the MOD's are watching this thread, so I say go on with your worthlesspieceoftrash self and make a mockery out of this web site.  I believe your the kind they are just wanting to kickoff this board.

I DID [}:D]

FWIW: As most everyone here and there clearly knows, Dthor and I have had no love for each other over the past year or so...

What you don't know is, that I contacted him a couple of days ago, to help me with this "fund raising project", knowing that he could very easily get the support from the members of his site.

Realist,

I have no problem with the spirit of your message.

The only difference is that I say things to people just as if I was in front of their face.

Tim & Don R will tell you, I tell it like I see it and sometimes I do get in over my head.  BUT, I can back my words up, is what makes me different from the next Commie.
