Not something overly trendy, but not something overly old-fashioned either.  What brands that are good have good models around that price tag?
I'd love a Breitling, but I've never seen one I like less than $5k.
What about at the $500 mark? $250?

I have my dad's old Seiko now that I love, but I have no idea what a Seiko, or really any other watch costs these days.  I know we have some watch buffs on here so I thought I'd ask.

$200-300 for a nice Seiko and $700-800 for another black rifle.

$8 Casio and a black rifle and a pistol.  Depends on what your priorities are.

Evidently my priorities are set on a $1k or so watch aren't they?  Just as you think my desire to have a decent watch is based on something superficial, I also think that your desire to have multiple versions of the same firearm is based on much the same.

To anyone else who would like to ramble on about what else you can buy with $1k, keep it to yourselves.  You want to start a "what I would do with $1k" thread, have at it.  Meanwhile I'll thank you to stay out of mine.  This thread is about watches.

Tags are good, but get their "Certified Chronometer" (not to be confused with Chronograph). If your going to get the battery powered Tag Heuer, you'd be better off with a good Seiko since Seiko makes the battery powered movements for Tag but the Tag Chronometers are atill hand-crafted Swiss Movement.

Movado Medalist,  beutiful watch in every way.  I have the one with the black face and silver band, I love it.

A good watch is more than a way to tell time,  some guys just don't understand that.

Tag F-1....(my first expensive watch)

The ones pictured in this thread are over $1k. FWIW: Rolex's are really over-rated, they get the "name" value but that's it. The Tag's and Breitling's are better watches according to my friend who works in a jewelry store and sells all three.
My Tag has been going strong for 10yrs (2 battery replacements and one latch) and it has some nasty scratches from a 110mph car accident, has been thru jumps, rolling on the ground, diving, and sex with various women :-)

Get a Tag... Any of the chrono's, except of F-1, are over $1k.

FWIW: Those who complain about a 1,2,3 thousand dollar watch, they don't get it. I look at my watch 40 times a day. I have firearms that cost 1,2,3 thousand dollars than don't get shot or shot very little. I place a very high value on my watch, but I'm a very time oriented person, so....

This reminds me...one time I went and saw a comedian perform.  It was outdoors on a sunny day.

So he gets a volunteer from the audience, works with the guy for 5 minutes making jokes and stuff, then tells the guy he can go back to his seat.

As the guy's walking off the stage the comedian says, "Hey John, do you have the time?"

John goes to look for his watch and it was no longer on his wrist!  John starts flipping out and the comedian pulls the watch out of his pocket and held it up, "Are you looking for this?"  John laughs at the joke and then goes to sit down.  Once he's back in his chair, the comedian says, "Hey, don't you want your wallet too?"  And holds up the guy's wallet.  So he stole the guy's watch and wallet right off of the guy in front of hundreds of people and no one even noticed!  Awesome.

I thought that was a great trick.  I bought a book on pickpocket techniques and understand the principles of the watch theft and wallet theft, but I myself was never interested enough in what amounts to a party trick to develop the disipline to do it myself.

I have a Seiko Auto-Relay Kinetic watch with titanium that I paid about $475 for. Its not snazzy, but charges when you move you arm, and if you don't use it for a few days it shuts off to conserve battery power. Shake it, it rewinds to the current time.

Or how about a post-ban AR15 (roughly $800) and an AR15.com "limited edition" watch (estimated retail price: $200+), instead of a Casio? [:D]

Comming from a guy who mostly has Seikos and a couple Hamiltons (which are also a very nice watch). Someday I want to aquire an Omega Seamaster, a Breitling Colt and a Zodiac Diver (no relation to the boats). Most of my watches are diver's or at least water resistant to 200 meters.  The Zodiac can be had for $500-750, if you look around. The Omega and Breitling $1000-1300 range. One day I will have em.

I've got a Breitling that kept perfect time and is very rugged. It's mechanical autowind, so if you don't wear it daily you will need to buy a winder gizmo or keep resetting it. Unfortunately, mine went underwater with the crown not seated and now it starts to run slow(gurgle, gurgle). Time for the watch repair guy (sigh...). Look around for a good Omega; I like the moon watch myself.

I really want an Omega Seamaster Chronograph, either Stainless or Titanium on Titanium.

The past couple years, Ashford.com's prices have been coming down, and they used to also carry the stainless one. Here is the Titanium one I like, and its the same price (at Ashford) as the stainless one was the past couple years... (back then they were not an authorized dealer-- not sure if that has changed)

I have a SS Rolex Sub-Mariner and a Tag Heuer and I prefer the Tag.

Rolex is a good watch and it looks good but is too big for my wrist size.  I don't think I wore that watch for more than a month but I would never sell it because it has a lot of  sentimental value to me. I have it because I got it about 15 years ago as a "appreciation gift" from the company I used to work for... I never would have paid my own money to have one.

I got a Tag from my wife about 7 years ago as a Christmas gift and I like it a lot and I wear it everyday. I like the smaller size and that it looks like a $50 watch everybody else wears so nobody pay attention to it... I don't like "flashy" things.  Despite the constant us and some abuse it still looks good and I have never had any problem with it.  I believe they cost about $800 so they are within your price range. If you like something a little more "flashy" Tag has some models that look similar to Rolex but still cost under $1k

My Tag looks like this one

I've always had a thing for BVLGARI...there' probably a little more than $1K, but thought I'd toss them in the ring.  For $1K or less, I'd go w/ a Tag or Something else that's a nice looking Chrono...

Here's the BVLGARI I want.  Around $4,000...damn my measly income.

I guess the most important thing is What are you going to use it for?

In MY opinion Movado is a nice watch, But too dainty, for a Working Man.
If you really want a Great watch that can take a good asskicking, get a Breitling Colt Super Ocean. I have had one for a little over 10 years now.

If you really do not need all that watch, get the Seiko's Diver watch, with an automatic movement, I use one of these for work They are a very good watch for the money and have the Automatic movement, add a NATO  watch strap and you will be set for time!!
