Not at all to get into an argument (because taste and preference is completely individual), but personally, I think nothing looks better than a "government property" 1911 or 1911A1 from either the first or second war.
I always keep my eyes open for a WW-1 1911 - I would LOVE one of those, but I'm too cheap to shell out the big bucks [:D] |

I was issued and carried a 1911 in Korea, in 1989, in the Second Infantry Division. It had been refinished and looked like the 1911A1's, mostly, but it still had the early hammer and flat mainspring housing, as well as the non dished receiver.
