*why can't Bush do this? -sigh-*

DEAN: I'm very comfortable talking about values, but we're never going to agree on some of these issues. I actually have a more conservative positions on guns than many Democrats, although I do support the assault-weapons ban and background checks and all that. But...

He's got my vote.

I'm registering as a Dem for the primaries here in CA.  It's a tough choice, Dean or Sharpton.

There is a huge difference between the Republican Party and the Democrat Party. To say they are alike is ignorance on your part.

The difference is Republicans think that all the laws restricting freedom that are on the books are OK and should be enforced vigorously. Democrats think we need even more laws that restrict freedom.

In the end, freedom loses with either party.

Ahh yes, laws that were already on the books. Laws like the ages old patriot act?

it seems to me that both parties are catering to the extremists on both sides of the political spectrum and nobody cares about the majority in the middle.

the republicans leave a lot to be desired but the democrats are simply unacceptable...

Perhaps I should have made it plainly obvious this discussion revolves around gun rights.

That better?

If the only issue I vote on this time is gun control, I'm afraid I would have to vote for somebody we haven't heard of yet or not vote at all.

You party line voters need to get a clue.  Keep voting for who your daddy did just cause of an Elephant or Jackass and your children will be weaponless when the burglar knocks the door down.

Has anyone read some of this idiot's quotes posted elswhere in this forum? He is a moron and that will become painfully evident soon enough. I predicted that he would be the Democratic Preidential nominee because of his union support and NRA endorsement, but hearing him talk lately has got me to wondering.

"Iran is a more complex problem because the problem support as clearly verifiable as it is in North Korea. Also, we have less-fewer levers much the key, I believe, to Iran is pressure through the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is supplying much of the equipment that Iran, I believe, most likely is using to set itself along the path of developing nuclear weapons. We need to use that leverage with the Soviet Union and it may require us to buying the equipment the Soviet Union was ultimately going to sell to Iran to prevent Iran from them developing nuclear weapons. That is also a country that must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons much the key to all this is foresight. Let’s act now so we don’t have to have a confrontation which may result in force, which would be very disastrous in the case of North Korea and might be disastrous in the case of Iran."

Someone needs to inform him that the Soviet Union disbanded some time ago.

On union shops and right to work:

MATTHEWS: Well, let me ask it-let me ask it totally open. Do you think a person has a right to work somewhere if they don’t want to join a union?
DEAN: I do. No, wait a minute. I don’t.
(LAUGHTER)
MATTHEWS: Why not? What’s wrong with an open shop where you can...
DEAN: I’ll tell you what’s the matter with it. Here is the problem with open-and, look, there’s obviously arguments to be made on...
MATTHEWS: A lot of states have right-to-work laws. You would get rid of them?
DEAN: I don’t like-well, I very much believe that states ought to have the right to recognize-to organize their own laws. So I’m not likely as president to-even though I don’t like right-to-work laws, I’m unlikely to order states to change them. {ooookay!}
DEAN: Let me tell you what-I actually believe in card check. I believe you shouldn’t have to have an election, that people who want to join a union should just be able to sign a card and join it. Let me tell you where I am on...
(CROSSTALK)
MATTHEWS: You are against-you do not believe in repealing 14B? You’re not going to accept the challenge from Gephardt to do that?
DEAN: If I got a bill on my desk that repealed 14B, I’d sign it in an instant. I’m just not going to push it hard...
MATTHEWS: OK.
DEAN: Because I do believe states have to have make their own judgments of that.
MATTHEWS: OK.
DEAN: I hate right-to-work laws. And let me tell you why it’s OK to be forced to join a union. The union is out there negotiating for your wage increases. Why should you get a free ride? Why should you should be able to go to work for that company, get the same benefits as everybody else who paid their union dues and you paid nothing? That’s why I’m against right-to-work laws.
MATTHEWS: OK.
DEAN: But I do believe it’s important for states to be able to make their own laws.
MATTHEWS: You understand why a libertarian would disagree with you, right? A libertarian would think they had a right, he or she, to work where they can do the job.
DEAN: Yes, but why should they-but why should they get the benefits of everybody else who is paying dues and get a free ride?
MATTHEWS: Because it’s a free country.

Take your "viable, and shove it.
I vote for the best man for the job. In other words, I vote my CONSCIENCE.

George Bush, or any other repub or dem, will sign unconstitutional bills. Bush already has signed them, and his stated intention is to sign the AWB renewal.

Bush has plainly stated he will violate the 2nd Amendment.

That's good enough for me.

Edit:  Please point out ONE federal gun law enacted since GWB has been in office.

Face it, boys, we're all going to wind up in the same place regardless of whether a Republican or a Democrat is calling the shots. We'll just get there quicker with Democrats in charge.

I say bring on Hillary and let's get this thing over with. Fuck it. I'm not getting any younger.
