I was doing a little survey of my gun collection and found, that based on the number of guns I own, my favorite caliber is 22 LR.  I shoot a lot of 22, and think it's a great caliber, but I'm still not sure its my favorite.  Anyway, here's how my collection breaks down, by caliber.  Prior to starting this C&R collecting stuff I thought I only had a few calibers in my collection, now there are 16, though not all related to the C&R.

22 LR          24%
5.45x39         3%
5.56x45        10%
7.62x25         7%
7.62x39         7%
7.62x51         5%
7.62x54R        8%
9mm             4%
38/357          7%
10mm/40S&W      4%
44 Mag/44 Spec  4%
45 Long Colt    4%
45 ACP         11%

I'm sure these percentages will change since I know the number of guns will.

SO how does your collection stack up?

My collection is as follows:

22lr - 1
30-30 - 2
30.06 - 1
.308 - 2
.54 - 3
.62 (estimate) - 1
.65 - 1
.74 - 1
12 ga - 4
10 ga -1

As only one of the 12 ga and both .308's are functional, I would say the .308 with the 12 ga coming in a close second.

My pet cartidge has got to be the 10mm but I only have one 10mm firearm out of about 180+/-.  So I will have to say, 22 rimfire, even in my machineguns.  It's just too much cheap fun!

Too many to count, however I can guess that my most abundant caliber is 7.62x54R.  I just had to have every Mosin model in every country's make.

Probably 45 Automatic and the 300 Winchester magnum.

Probably 375 H&H, but it's a little tough to spend a morning popping Tannerite bottles with it, that's where the .223 comes in. [:D]

Heck do I base this on the number of rounds stored the basement, rounds fired per year, or guns on hand?
I have guns for:
22lr
9x18
.45
5.45x39
5.56x45
6.55x55
7.62x39
7.62x51
7.62x54r
8mm
12ga

Turk 8mm at .05/rnd is my best value shooting, 5.45x39 is my most fun shooting. And I learn the most with 22.

I like .308 the most but shoot 9mm mainly.

22LR followed by 9mm then 5.56
Link Posted: 12/7/2003 6:25:27 AM EDT
[#17]
Based on the number of weapons it would be 9mm; Followed by 5.56mm and .45acp.

Based on the amount of ammo on hand or rounds fired it would be 5.56mm.

Hard question but the caliber I enjoy shooting the most is my 17 Remington.

Rifle (fun): .223 Rem
Rifle (hunting): .280 Rem
Autopistol: .45 ACP
Revolver: .41 Mag

Pity about the .41 mag and .280 Rem. Two vastly underrated calibers that are way better than their sales figures suggest.

That stuck out at me as a cool choice.
My comparitive answer would be:

.40 S&W and 7mm Remington Magnum.

Otherwise, I've accumulated a lot of .22 launchers, and tried to have a couple of different models in other calibers.

Of what I have, .223/5.56 in an AR-15.  Extremely accurate and effective, with managable recoil.

I really, really, REALLY want an AR-10 and a .458 SOCOM AR-15 though.

I don't see what the number of firearms in any particular caliber have to do with a favorite caliber.

7.62X51 is my current favorite rifle caliber, although I like 5.56X45 and have more rifles for that caliber.

.44 Magnum is my favorite handgun cartridge, which I have three revolvers chambered for. Got five chambered for .357 Magnum. Like those too, but I get a bigger thrill from the fotyfo.

For me it would be .22. I just bought my first .22LR rifle, and my first handgun was in .22 Cheap and fun to shoot (I like the cheap part, with me still being in school).

Second to that is .308/7.62x51. I love my M70!
