They have plenty of cheap scope and mount combos for AR's. |

Why would you put a cheap scope on an AR? That's like putting 20's on a 72 Cadillac. Sounds like some of the "Bling,Bling" ideas to me. Save the money and do the AR some justice.

rebel, think of this too. If it's a recreational rifle that is only gonna go to the range once in awhile, why spend all the dough on a super-tactical milspec "indestructible" aiming device if you are just plinking at targets?
(this coming from someone who always buys top of the line equipment... hey, never said I wasn't guilty of it, too.) |

I've had pretty good luck with Simmons scopes. Nary a problem on over 1000 rounds in my 25-06, among others. Might wanna give their lineup a try.

Hey just stick you a Tasco red dot on it for $29.95. Believe it or not they are great at 50 yards.

Hey Absolut, will this scope sit atop the ARMS #51A2 you bought from me? Cabelas sells the Bushnell Holo-pro for almost $100 cheaper than an EOTech. They are both paralax free with several brightness adjustments. The Bushnell unit is almost identical to the EOTech. If the scope is for an A3 upper, check the EE for a good deal on a Leupold. Just my $.02!

Ok, I can see your point, but I also believe in training on the set up you plan to shoot. The change could make a difference when it really counts. If I had to pick one I'd probably go with the tasco or Simmons. They’ve done a respectable job on my .22's. I just broke the bank and got a real nice Nikon, so I'm a bit spoiled now :) |

I've been burned, and seen way to many others burned with cheap optics. For me, a Leupold VX-II is the lowest I'll go (and these are fine scopes for under $300).

Natchez Shooters Supply had Bushnell Scopechiefs 3X9 40MM for $80.00 Good scope, low price. It has an adjustable objective lens and a quick focus eyepiece. Good optics for the money.

A scope on an AR is silly !
The bullet is only effective to about 250m, get you a red dot of some kind. Leave the scopes for the .30 cals. I'm gonna take a beatin for this [BD] But its true [:D] |

Yeah the best I can tell ya is a Nikon Buckmaster for $199. Held up to a .450 Marlin so far. Nice for the price.

I bought a Simmons 2.8x10 AETEC on sale at Walmart for $119 including tax. It's a nice scope. It looks good with my Armalite one piece mount. About 400 rounds downrange with no problems.

My general purpose scope for my rifle is a Simmons Whitetail Classic 1.5x5. It comes with their rough, flat finish (granite-or something like that) so it looks well on the rifle. My rifle is the standard A2 upper so I usually leave the scope off. But it has low magnification for quick work and 5 power is enough for all other work but prairie dogs at extreme ranges. I think the scopes run around $125-$150.

I have an NCStar lighted reticle 3-9x42 that I bought with the mount on ebay for around $60. It's *slightly* blurry at the low end of the zoom, but crystal clear when zoomed in further.
After zeroing in initially, I was extremely surprised to see that the cheap carry handle mount actually returned to zero when I removed it and replaced it. For the price, I wasn't expecting such a luxury. I like the scope and the mount, but I don't think that I'd take the chance with cheap optics again. While it is true that you "get what you pay for" in a scope, I would suggest a cheap possibility.
I use a BSA 40mm Red Dot on my M-Forgery. It was about $40 at a gun show, NIB. It works great. I was shooting it yesterday and it is amazing. If you put the dot on a can and pull the trigger, you have a hit. It is almost too easy. I'm going to share one of my secrets! This was told to me by a fellow gunsmith friend of mine who is now deceased. I have never found it to be wrong yet!
Cruise the gunshows, and look for people selling used scopes. What you are looking for is Tasco scopes that were MADE IN JAPAN. --NOT-- the ones made in China! The Japanese optics from the 60s and 70s were made quite nicely and are robust. Also, other off brands that were made in Japan. Just be sure to remove the windage/elevation knob covers and make sure the knobs move freely, "click", and are not buggered up. Check for clarity and ensure the variable power adj. ring moves freely. I currently have a Japanese scope from the 60s on my Serbu BFG 50!!! It is a 3x9x42, and has an adjustable objective lens to boot! It came with front and rear lens covers, and was $15. I plan on putting a Nightforce on this gun, but funds don't permit it right now. This is no bullshit advice! Balming |

Sportsman's Guide has the scope originally meant to go on an AR15(the one you see mounted in some of the early AR15A1 photos). $35.

Hey' it's YOUR rifle after all! ...and so on mine, I bought a Wally World BSA red dot for $39, and 6-800 rounds later, it works great. [i]and I'm following your thread closely, I want a cheap scope that'll be good for a few hundred rounds or so, just to find out if I really need/get-great-benefit-from a scope. If I do, I'll buy a "real" one. |

you might want to try one of the russian Kobra red dots with a quick detach weaver mount, runs around 150.00.
