i think its because they were not allowed any facial hair then when they allowed mustaches everyone got one??

I don't have one, don't know any officer that does. Same goes for the fire/EMS of my acquaintance.

Another stereotype based on fact. It's true, when I started on the job in 88, about 75% of the men on the job wore mustaches. The last few years, it seems that the look is dying off, especially with the younger generation. Me? I'd wear a mustache if I could grow a decent one. I can't so I'll just have to get by on my boyish charm and good looks.

Well, I just got done demo-ing a Magpul stock to two cops that didn't have them either. Maybe my statistics are a little skewed.

Well, as for firemen, around here they're allowed to have mustaches, but thats it, since their mask wouldn't cover a beard.

I can usually recognize a cop by the style of his mustache, I notice they usually have a thick mustache like "Groucho Marx" or Yosemiti Sam? they dont keep it trimmed to military regulation and goes past the lip line on the edges.
also the haircut is different lots of cops have medium length haircuts that doesnt have the "tapered" sides on the sides and back, it's not military regulation but looks more like LE. then some have the military "high & tight" with a mustache that doesnt match the haircut. |

Actually many agencies prohibit facial hair. Only one person in my dept has one, and he's over 50. I'm willing to be beat up over this comment, but, I think being clean shaven looks much more professional.....JMHO!!!!!

I have one but most of the guys in my department don't. BTW most people think I'm military not LEO. I keep my stash very short (like 3 days growth) and my hair in a high and tight.
