I asked the same question a couple months ago when I was gonna have Jayson at IGF build one or the other(before I knew my summer overtime would actually not occur). Everybody said the 94. Great sights, good stock, accurate as hell. Even the guys with MP5Ks said if it was full auto, cool, but otherwise with just semi auto the SP89/MP5K was just a big freakin' pistol. A very cool big pistol that would be badass to own, but not over the HK94 if you had to choose. So yeah, stick with the HK94, and turn in your SBR paperwork. That what I'd do if I couldn't keep both (Both would rock too). |

Well that depends on your intended plans.
If you are gonna leave them original config the HK94 is far more practical. The SP89 is really just a heavy pistol. Now if you plan to install a registered sear what do you want a MP5K or a MP5? With the HK94 you will have to cut and crown the barrel. And if you ever remove or sell the sear it will have to be registered as a short barreled rifle. With the SP89 you don't need any gunsmithing to go to a MP5K. You just buy a K grip and you are there. Buy a Choate folder and you have a MP5K PDW which is a rather practical compact subgun. And if you remove or sell the sear you are fine, you just need to remove the K Grip to be legal again. If you want to keep the K Grip as a semi you can register it as a AOW and it will only cost $5.00. |
