Creek County murder suspect, Scott Eizember, in custody, in an east Texas hospital
The manhunt for Scott Eizember is over. Creek County authorities say Eizember was shot four times after he kidnapped a couple from Arkansas.

The final day of the manhunt started in Depew, but it ended in east Texas. We have team coverage, beginning with News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan.

The manhunt for Eizember lasted five weeks and a day. Creek County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mike O'Keefe: "And the biggest relief is that we know now the community is safe. That's been our biggest concern during all of this was that he was going to harm someone else."

After weeks of searching in the woods around Bristow, authorities believe cold weather forced Eizember out in the open to a church in Depew, where a car was stolen Sunday morning. Later in the day a doctor and his wife were kidnapped near Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The kidnapping was tied to Eizember through a threatening cell phone call to Eizember’s former girlfriend. O'Keefe: "We now know he traveled to Fort Smith, kidnapped Dr Peoples and his wife, and at one point she was forced to call Cathy Biggs with the threat, she sounded very distressed according to Cathy Biggs."

Authorities started tracking Eizember - when he turned up in a hospital emergency room in Lufkin, Texas. Authorities say the kidnapped doctor, shot Eizember four times - then drove him to a hospital. Back in Creek County - the families of the victims got the word they've been waiting for. O'Keefe: “We've been in contact with them and I think they're very relieved that Eizember is in custody, just as everybody is.”

Eizember is alive and stable according to a nurse at the hospital where he was admitted.

Creek County authorities are headed to Lufkin, Texas to follow up on the case.

***********************************************

The story doesn't tell exactly what happened but the Doctor they kidnapped had a concealed gun in his van and was eventually able to get to it.  He shot Eizember 4 times in the chest.

I have no doubt that this saved the lives of the Doctor and his wife.  You may not know the story of Eizember, but he was the guy that wanted to stalk his ex-wife so he killed an elderly couple that lived across the street from her so he could use their house to keep tabs on her.

He also then shot his ex-wives son twice.
