Seems like most everyone is getting in on the 1911 scene lately. Sig is the latest right? Has the Glock and its clones seen better days? With all due respect to those who own Glocks, I just haven't been stricken with the tupperware bug. I just don't like 'em. But then having never shot one I suppose it is unfair for me to say I don't like them. Ah screw it. I don't like them.

i think the craze right now is the XD....i spent almost a month trying to find one with an OD Green frame

Some of us never left the 1911 for Wondernines and Tactical Tupperware.

I equate the current fascination with the 1911 to that with the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The parts exist from so many aftermarket and custom manufacturers to make any kind of pistol/motorcycle you can imagine. A few years ago, just when Glock was in its heyday, sportbikes were all the rage. It come and goes. Next it'll be wheelguns, or HPs or something. But one thing is for certain: the 1911, like the H-D, is a classic design that's here to stay.

Were you able to find one? Also, did you know Springfield will be offering an XD in .45 caliber sometime in 2004?

yes, finally found one at a shop in Penn......and yes, i can't wait on the .45 XD

also supposed to be coming out with a .40 in the Sub-Compact

Nope.
My Glock is still more reliable than ANY 1911 I've ever fired, even heavily "tuned" models. Don't confuse the number of manufacturers with the actual number of pistols sold. Glock still kicks the 1911s ass in that department, too.

But I love my SIGs best

I have owned a Glock 34 for about 5 months now, and am slowly learning to love it. I only have a few thousand rounds through it so far, so it's still new to me. I've always thought Glocks were the ugliest pistol made, and frankly, I STILL HATE the trigger feel (*ping*). But, one thing you can't argue is that it is an EXTREMELY reliable pistol. And, the G34 and G35 look better IMO because the slide and barrel are longer than normal Glocks.

All that being said, my CCW is still a 5" Government 1911 and I will always swear by the 1911 as the best design ever. But for new shooters who want to own only one gun for self-defense I recommend the Glock out-of-the-box.

"Tuned" may have been the problem.

And so was my factory Springfield. Nothing but jams. Sold it to a guy who thought he could clean it up. He still hasn't been able to make it clear a magazine without MFs.

I really like the 1911 trigger and certain aspects of it's frame, but that linked barrel is vastly inferior to the lockup of the SIGs and the Glocks (modified Browning?).

I was like you, but more so I hated them, and hated the way they had introduced plastic to the firearms community. Then I had to do a pick and chose for the department I was working for at the time, it was between a few pistols and the Glock won. They are good pistols, pretty much bullet proof when used in the proper mannar , with the proper ammunition.

my kimber is not as reliable as my well used G19. I guess it would a good boat anchor, as heavy as it is.

I changed from 1911s to Glocks about 7 years ago. When something better comes along I'll change again. I currently have five Glocks. They are the only handguns I own, shoot and carry. The same was said when I had 1911s. Just something with me about wanting to keep things uniform and simple.

My dream pistol is a polymer framed Browning High Power in .45 and 9mm. That would make me sell all the Glocks.
