A few things bother me. There appears to be no evidence of fire, either a testament to the Beamer quality or evidence of a fake. The tree shows little sign of being damaged, I would think that at 120mph, the tree would shear off, or at least "bend". And, the lack of any blood anywhere makes it suspect. What say you?

I once saw a car hit a tree. Looked kinda like this one but with bits and pieces strewn about and 3 dead bodies to boot. Lots of blood and gore involved. tree came out the winner with only gauges in the trunk.
In this picture it looks as if the driver was ejected.

I think it's face. A crash of that magnitude would definitely do some major damage to the tree. Also, the direction alot of those people are looking in the pictures is strange.

The car doesn't appear to be complete, that is my first observation.

My second observation is that the tree's trunk is too skinny to survive and impact like that. The tree would have been either cut in half or uprooted.

Is this an insurance scam or something?

Fake, Look closely at the outline of the clothing the people are wearing very close to the car.

I don't think the car is fake I think the people are added.

Maybe it impacted something before it hit the tree, destroying the front end, and leaving the remaining part to careen off and hit the tree. With the lack of heavy steel in modern cars, if it was just the cab of a two door car at enough speed, I can see it doing that and not damaging the tree much. The bark underneath is probably ate up pretty good. Just a guess.

Of all the wrecks I've responded to, you see a LOT of broken glass and plastic lenses, fluids (usually coolant), etc. The arean under the car seems clear. I also don't see tire tracks or the hedge mowed over. Lots of funny shit.

Looks real to me, where is the weight of the car? The engine, looks like it ripped itself off of the light weight frame and was flung elsewhere. I bet there is glass in the grass but you can't see it. The people don't look fishy like they were added.

Trees are pretty darn strong. This one is plenty thick to withstand the impact.

Look at the height of the car relative to the level of the road. If the car was moving at the velocity it would take to wrap it up like that, the car would have impacted higher on the tree. Just my 2 cents...

Look at the ground under the tree, completely undisturbed. There should be gouges, blood, oil, antifreeze, chunks of window, plastic, something.

Ive totalled two cars in my lifetime, and in both cases there were bits of broken shit everywhere

Fake.

Looks like the car hit something else before the tree. Maybe another car, truck, or stone wall. The driver (and any occupants) were most likely thrown from the car a considerable distance. You're missing more than half of the car. The whole front end including the engine and front seats are missing. A live tree is surprisingly strong. You can see were some of the bark was torn off. What's left of the car probably did not weigh that much or have any rigidity to it.

There's definate damage to the tree. You can see it in at least 2 of the photos.

BTW - what is that blue line in the top pic?

Trees are pretty tough. Cars tend to hit them at the base, which is the strongest part. It is impossible for a tree this size to be uprooted by a blow from the side. The blow strikes exactly where the trees leverage is the greatest. Same with the car knocking down the tree. The impulse of the impact would be far too fast to pull over the entire tree. The force is applied in the wrong place.

The only other alternative is to actually knock the wood of the trunk apart. Ever tried to punch your way through a thumbsized piece of green wood? Dry wood breaks (like telephone poles) breaks off far more easily than a live tree trunk.

Two things. The tree is stouter than it looks.
Look at the base. There is bark damage.
This is probably real. I have seen some wierd shit with car accidents.

Trees always win.

I've been in EMS 14 years. Even smaller trees can take a tremendous blow. The car could have easily broken up elsewhere in the road, bled velocity and slowed to 60,70 or 80 MPH. That is not a 120 MPH impact straight into the tree.

I went to an accident three weeks ago, a Honda doing about 80 wrapped itself around a tree. The tree was the only impact. There was 8 inches between the front and rear tire on the other side of the tree. The tree was also about the size of the one pictured above. The driver was killed, the female passenger died enroute to the hospital.

Totally feasible.

in the top picture, what is that thin blue line running from the base of the passenger door window to some part of the rear. maybe a cable used to support the door as seen in picture two??

...perhaps suggesting this could well be a constructed exhibit.

I don't think it is a fake. I hit a tree a little smaller than that with a 66 dodge at about 50. It put a dent about 3 feet deep in the trunk from the rear, and didn't but scratch the tree.
The fluids missing would be with the front end where ever it landed.

Hmm still, a 3 series Beamer weighs around 3300 lbs. If that's half the car you're still looking at around 1600 lbs of metal.

I have work a few wrecks where a car is wrapped around a small tree like the one shown. Funny the damage they can do. I have cut people out of the worst wreck you can imagine and they walk away, and then others die in often low speed accidents. Funny how it work out sometimes. I have only unbelted one corpse but have found many people ejected when wearing no belt.

Looks like a lot of the car is missing in this pic. Fake or not, strange things can happen.

Look at the base of the tree in the first two pics. The tree splits somewhere higher up. That tree isn't as small as it looks.

The rear half of a car doesn't necessarily weigh the same as the front half. You think a car's weight is evenly split down the middle?

Where's the damned mess that has to accompany a crash like that?

I think that car got wrapped around the tree with heavy equipment, and very deliberately, and slowly. Doesn't look much like your regular wreck to me.

Several months ago, some young men were out late one night and the driver was speeding at a high rate of speed (over 70...bad idea!) on wet roads (Even dumber idea!) and through a CONSTRUCTION ZONE (Appallingly stupid) that involved rerouting the lanes (Incredibly dumb!), and he wasn't driver enough to handle the challenge.

The car hit a tree, flew apart into SMALL pieces, and much of the car ended up in a recently bulldozed holding pond that was there as a consequence of the road work.

The few pieces left on the ground in sight looked like old junk lying around.

Despite the fact that this was on a busy highway, though the accident occurred at about 2 AM, it wasn't until about nine or ten the next morning (a weekday, mind you) that somebody noticed that these parts were from a fresh wreck.

Sort of disquieting, to think that you can utterly smash a car, kill yourself and three passengers along with you, and nobody would even notice for about eight or nine hours.

I drove by the scene. The biggest piece of the car that I saw was small enough to carry it by hand. Even the engine was in several chunks.

I'm pretty sure the left side of the hatchback says "Escort".

When was the last time you saw a BMW with hand crank window mechanisms?

Next assuming 3300 lbs of weight, if the front bumper, hood, fenders, front transaxle, suspension, and engine are torn off a car, how much less does it weigh? Plus the bumper which is designed to take impacts is gone. The firewall which is just sheetmetal, is much less able to withstand impacts.

Look at the pictures of the tree. All of that tree is coming from one trunk. There is missing bark in picture 3. In pcture 1 there is what appears to be an impact mark in the trunk 6-12" inches above the wreckage.

I don't know where 120 mph came from. But trees are real resilient. That tree is still small enough that it would give a bit on impact, then it's roots would pull it back into it's original position.

As far as lack of fire, if the front end is gone, so it the battery that powers the in tank fuel pump.

I also think that car went into that tree sideways, probably after the intial impact or mechnical failure that sheared the front end off. The tree hit on the diver's side near the rear of the driver's door, in front of or partially into the rear driver's side tire. The whole car turned counter-clockwise arounf the tree, sliding down the trunk as it went.

But all of that is just a guess.

I also think it is an authentic set of pictures.

To me it looks like a maple tree and that is very dence wood. I belive it is real, but it did hit something frist as the front end and the unibody flooring looks to be ripped off and some where else(with the seats).

A few years ago a MustangII hit a pine that was about 2 1/2' in dia. just a few miles down the road from us. Missed a turn in the road and hit it head on cutting the car in half down the center stoping at the back bumper. The tree is still alive it just lost some bark, Killed 6 people 5 kids 13-17yrs and one adult. The adult was driving the lowest BAC was .09 and that in one of the kids. (seed was est. 120+)

This is my bet; I can't imagine a circumstance other than "Prom Day" exhibits where this many kids would have free access to the scene.

If this is real, it's a fatality. No way these people would be just "hangin' around" the car.

Staged. "This could be You!!" to get the kids not to drive drunk.

I have participated in a few; I am even in a Driver's Ed film distributed by the Ohio DPS as an EMT in a similar scenario.

1) It's a euro Escort.

2) It's not a real accident. It was put there as a demonstation to teen drivers in Germany by the highway safety organization over there.
