Mostly my collection is of high quality modern rifles and pistols, like my AR and HK pistols. For the past 18 months or so however,I have been on a WWII bent, and have purchased a 1943 production M1, and a 1944 production 1911A1. I also bought an M1 carbine a while back, but sold it once I found out it was manufactured in the fifties. How about you guys? Any prevalent themes? Or do you just try to buy quality firearms that fit your needs? |
All of my firearms are "shooters". I have no interest in guns for show. If I can't shoot them without harming their value, I don't want them.
And I am in total agreement with Col. Townsend Whelen, "Only accurate rifles are interesting". |
"stuff that goes bang"
That would be my theme, I love guns from blackpodwer to machineguns and everything inbetween. I often show up to the range with A Colt 1860 BP revolver, a 1903, and my AR-15. I like variety I could not possible focus my collection on one theme, and I do collect, I shoot every gun I buy, but there are some I have only shot once and may not shoot again. |

I like the type of guns made between 1800-1900, for some reason I just connect with them. Also, if I get a pistol from a certain era I like to try and get a rifle from the same era. Sometime it's caliber, I've got a 9mm pistol, I'd like to get a 9mm long gun to go with it. Another way to go is to get a representive gun from each era. I've got a Flintlock half-stock plains rifle, a '63 Sharps paper ctg. rifle, I need a good lever action to fit into the group then I'll get a semi-auto like an SKS and then a modern semi-auto like a G3 or FAL. Kind of a "History of rifles" kind of thing. I also need a good Colt '60 Army to match with the '63 Sharps. Of course, I never have the money to get what I want so I end up selling something off to get something else so my "collection" is never complete.

Generally speaking, most of my firearms are derivatives of military weapons: AR, AK, FAL, etc. However, I have a few wheelguns and shotguns that are, well, just because. I suppose that looking at the big picture, I'm another one of the "because it goes bang" type of collectors. I have no use for a firearm that won't (or can't) be fired.
On my to-get list currently is a Webley revolver, a P-38 and of course a couple more ARs. Would also like a lever-action carbine. An a Benelli M1. And an HK91. Oh, crap. Now you've got me started ... |
"Guns I Like" would be the main theme
Sub-themes would be Military style firearms Model 1911 handguns 7.62 combat rifles of the world Big bore, short barrel, S&W wheelguns Interesting C&R stuff |
U.S. military weapons: Garand, M1A, AR15, 1911. Ain't no pinko commie rifles in my safe.
Defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
So far, all of my guns are black. I guess you could call that a theme!
My theme is: politically incorrect, so I can piss off as many liberals as possible, and sometimes I buy bryco's and jenning's just to piss REAL gun owners off
I shift between battle rifles (M1A, Garand, G3), intermediate rifles (AR-15, AKs) and handguns. Now I am focusing solely on NFA weapons.
This is the 2nd time around for me as I sold all my guns to build my house in the mid 80s. I am rebuilding my collection so far it's 4 AR's and 1 AK. BobK

Every one has a specific (hunting/target/plinking/historical/etc...)purpose. I do have some 'extras' but most of them are .22s for fun.
I have a preference for military and police guns - Glock, AR15, FAL, HK USP, etc (well except for my Browning Buckmark). I have no interest in wood stocked hunting bolt actions right now as I don't hunt, and no interest in single action cowboy type guns.
Well, not too many shotguns in my safe. No real "theme" although I did get on a M44 kick there for a while. All my guns are shooters,,,, except for that Geelock thing that doesn't seem to work. |
Anything military.Military firearms"wrote History".Simple,reliable,usually somewhat "cheap to shoot"(surplus ammo).Great collector value(investment).

i've been whittling my collection down. I try to stick with guns that could play a roll in defending my life. I don't currently hunt, so am not interested in hunting rifles. in a SHTF scanrio there's no reason I couldn't shoot an animal with my AR or FAL.
I try to keep handguns that I can use for CCW. The two exceptions would be my .357 revolver (and it's lever-action sidekick) as truck guns, and my Ruger MKII that I don't think I'd get enough for to make it worthwile selling. I honestly have no idea what they go for though, maybe I should look into that. The one upside to the MKII is that it's good for breaking in newbies. I guess you could say that ultimately everything I have has a purpose other than making me feel cool. I'm not into shit that sits in the safe so I can come on an internet board and impress the masses with pics of my extensive collection. |
My "theme" can be summed up in one word: EVIL!
The greater the EVIL factor the better! MuuuWaaaHaaaHaaaHaaa!!! |
My theme used to be western. As I grow older it's morphing into a military theme. From a Colt SAA to a 1911. From a Winchester lever to an AR. Glocks in the mix too.

I only have two catagories in mine
Ones I have and Ones I want |
What Old_Painless said basically, (I do have ONE safe queen).
Also I lean more towards handguns. |
I like historical firearms my favorites are Soviet & Chinese weapons from WWII to Vietnam era. Curio & Relic firearms.
my only modern firearm is a Ruger PC9 9mm carbine. |
Any gun that costs more than I can currently afford and that I don't have more than 2 of!
My main theme:
"Once you go black, you never go back" For the record, I still think that should be the AR15.com slogan. |
Variety, if I could, I would own at least one of everything. Unfortunately, I am a few weapons shy of that goal!
Guns? I don't have any guns. I thought this was an Airsoft site. All of my Airsoft guns are black.
Ghost |

My handguns (with the single exception of my SA Ultra Compact) are modern polymer framed designs. SA XD, HK USP, Beretta 9000, P99, P22.
Rifles are a cross section. Tikka, M1A, SKS, M-44, M48A, Marlin 17. Shotgun goes back to “military practical” a Mossberg 590A1 All are proven, reliable tools. No safe queens or wall hangers in my collection. As I can afford it my collection will improve but I'll stick with the "reliable tools" theme for the foreseeable future. |
I hunt & shoot, so my collection reflects that, though I really don't have any "safe queens". I even take out the '06 and .270 every couple of months just to give 'em a workout, and I have more .22s than most people need (throw-ins on deals, cheap bargains at the pawnshops, etc). My handguns reflect what I choose to call "the classics". I recently bought a mechanical clay pigeon thrower so I can work the scatterguns out more. So, my only real theme is that "yes" I hunt and have the firearms to do it, and "yes" I shoot recreationally and have the firearms to do that.
I don't know if there is a theme, but I like Quality over Quantity. A well rounded collection of handguns, shotguns and rifles.
Numerous calibers and gauges, bolt, semi automatic, pump and revolver. |
One day I wish to have all of the following in a collection:
AR-15 (got it) M1A (M14) Franchi SPAS 12 Walther P99 9mm HK USP. 45 Tactical Thompson M1A1 (short barreled) |
Apparently it is "whatever I have now, +1, until I get that one, then it's that number, +1, etc., etc., etc., " You get the idea.
Have a couple of themes going in mine. US Military rifles, have an 03, a 1917, a Garand, a Carbine and an AR (M1A costs to damn much). Have a couple of Enfields and an Carcano for a little diversity.
Modern police handguns (couple Smith 38's, couple Smith nines, a Beretta, Ruger 357, Colt DS, Ruger P90). Along with assorted leather goods. Lots of assorted leather goods. Boxes of used police holsters........... Shotguns - said I would never have more than one but now have three and wouldn't mind a little 20 gauge double. |
i guess my curent kick is WW1 and WW2 era military firearms, with a mix of era civie guns as well...
but i have 2 shotties (both mossy 500s), 2 enfields, 2 war era 30-06 cal riles, 2 finally finished tanneryshop recivers (and the bushy i was useing as a template), and two "other" ...... hey it the collection of twos... |
Mostly either current or past US military issued (or equivalent) firearms. AR-15, M1A, 92FS . . . I really like knowing the firearm design has been battle tested. Plus the stuff just looks cool
I have 2 themes - - 1) the collection is too small, and - 2) I'm running out of room. |
High-speed, low-drag, mostly American made, and most importantly, commonality of function.
