I am one of those people who needs his sleep.  I can get by with 6 hours, but would really like 8 to feel good the next day.  Sometimes when I have nothing going one...I'll get 10.

Then there are those who amaze me who claim they only need 2-3 hours...sometimes less...and they are good to go.

Where do you fall?

(Poll coming)

At least 8- if I get less than 8 hours, I'll be sick the next day. My buddies are always on my ass cause I go to bed no later than 10 if I can help it. I wonder how I'm gonna get past Hell Week if I decide to enroll in BUDs......

I could do 7-8 a night forever and be OK with that.

Any more than 6 is too much (unless real hungover or otherwise sick).

I am not young anymore....6-8 would do.

Seven is about right. Unfortunately 6-6.5 is the usual.

I usually get 5 to 6 hours of sleep on average
and feel fine, but it depends on my activities
that day, if I stayed up late doing extra physical exertion then I would probably need an
extra hour of sleep. I rarely sleep more than 6
hours.

What I need and what I get are two different things.

I usually get 5 to 6 hours.
I would like to get 7 or 8.

... How much I need, and how much I get are two different numbers.

... I have a rather unorthodox sleeping pattern. Throughout the workweek I'l average 4-5 hours a night and I'm OK with that. Come Sunday morning I'll sleep in 8-10 hours and I'm all "recharged" ready for the next week.

If I lay down for more than 7 hours I have a hard time moving around the next day. I always need more sleep.

6 hours minimum for me to be responsive during the day. 8 or 9 hours on a usual night. Anymore than 10 and I don't feel right the next day.

I can get by with 1 or 2 hours. Got use to it by going on long road trips or vacations with my family. But I dont' think you'll really want to be around me when I am going off of 1 or 2 hours of sleep.

Yeah, and he only gets 5-6!

I usually get 7-8. That's about what I need. I like to get 10 on the weekends though.

Two pre-K's in my house. I get between 5 and 6 hrs. a night and pray for a 2 hr. weekend nap on Sunday.

I got a bit less than 4 last night (2-6) and felt good when I woke up. Other times I can sleep all day and well into the evening. So I dunno. I'm just getting back onto a normal sleeping habit.

I've been screwed up since summer. Staying up all night, sleeping sometimes during the day, aking a nap whenever or staying in bed for 20 hours. It was weird. Im getting close to fixing it though, I think.

Hmmm... (yawn)... yeah...

Well, "Like to get" "Need to get" and "Actually get" are three different things.

Need: at least 6
Get: 4-5

It gets worse the closer to finals it gets.

well said. i'd say, for me to feel all refreshed, i'd need about 20hrs. a day. the only reason i need this much is because over the last 6-8 years i've actually only gotten about 2-4hrs. a night. DAMNED BARS!!

6 works good for me.  If I get more than 8 I feel sluggish all day.

My wife seems to be in training to be the captain of the Olympic Snooze Team.  However, to me sleep is a necessary inconvenience.  I'd like to find a way to reduce the amount of sleep I need.  I'd rather be doing something than spending 1/3 of my life unconscious.
