I've played a lot of PC games first person shooters in particular, but Americas Army is the best yet IMHO.
They really paid attention to detail. When you do a tactical mag change you swap mags, but when you run your rifle dry you have to hit the bolt release after you change mags.  The SOPMOD kits are really cool; the silencers make the rifle sound like a .22 (long) with the sonic crack and all.  Even the Trijicon Reflex washes out against bright objects! LOL! Very realistic, from sounds to weapon behavior and tactics. This is the ONLY game that I've played where a nade sounds like a nade.  Flash bangs really blind and disorientate you leaving you vulnerable. Your ears ring if you throw your frag’s or FB’s short.

If you are an AR15/M-16 enthusiast and don’t have this game, GET IT NOW!

I absolutely love that game too, but for some reason, after the last update a few months ago, I can't connect anymore.  I've tried reinstalling and redownloading it and no go.

I think I know what your prob is: They have fairly recently  upgraded the authetication servers... so you need to go to the AA site and go to the account section you need to update your account becauseit is probably expired... ALL accounts were expired unless you went in and updated your account after the upgrade there were several notices on the web page and on the game chat. You just udate your account they email you a new password then you can change your password to whatever you want and your good to go. If Im not complete on the process some of the others may beable to help you out.
Se you all on AA ARFCOM-OregonShooter

But Ive only got 1.9 it will take along time to upgrade with 56k.

Took me an hour plus wait to START the download from Gamespy, but once you start it up I got 59k, which was reasonable considering how many people play.

Just finished playing three or four hours' worth.  I haven't stayed up this late since I took the bar exam (and it wasn't playing video games!!).

This is the kind of game that makes you feel stupid for ever having paid $50 for a video game.  This game is FREE and its higher quality than any first person shooter I've ever seen for sale in a store.  It makes Ghost Recon and Delta Force look cheap, no kidding.

Oh yeah and sniping with the SPR is way, way fun, but not nearly as fun as spamming with the RPG.  I love how the RPG kind of flies every which way once you let it go, every other game I've ever seen that has a rocket launcher in it the rocket flies straight and true like its riding a laser beam.  Its really difficult to put the RPG through a window!

The SOPMOD with the aimpoint on it is my personal favorite rifle for most missions though.

Gratuitous screenshot, wish they had a screenshot showing the 3d iron sights, they rock.

Downloading it as we speak! I'm at 79% right now, running off of DSL. Let me tell you, it took nearly TWO HOURS - if you have dialup and want to download it, FORGETTABOUDIT.

I love the game, but I always get either 33-35 on the BRM so I can't be a sniper and I keep following the instructions for the the airborno live jump and I keep getting unsatisfactory.  I'll never make SF

[#17]
Manwitgun I can help you out on that stuff.  On the jump test, wait until you are at the top of the smoke plume to flare.  On the marksmanship range, make sure you have your movement speed set to "slow" and you have your iron sights up, the little target dot won't do it.  Pay attention to your breathing and pull the trigger when your guy has either finished inhaling or exhaling (i.e. he isn't moving the sights around).

Yes the game is realistic enough that for maximum accuracy you must pay attention to your breathing, which of course nobody actually does in combat, but its kinda cool at the range.

I didn't see any screenshots I liked online, so I took a couple myself on the CSAR mission just now.

Here are 3d iron sights on the M4:

And here the M4 is in grenade launcher mode, overlooking the downed chopper.  These are at 800x600 resolution with antialiasing and all that stuff turned OFF for maximum FPS.  I prefer a few extra frames per second to extra eye candy in multiplayer games where reaction time is everything.  Someone with a better computer than my old 1ghz could make the graphics much better.

Well Duke Nukem I still can't do it.  I've gone through every freaking walkthough and have probably spent more than a solid 24 hours on both qualifying to become a sniper and trying to become airborne.  Hell, today my dad nicknamed me "Hobbit" since I refused to leave my room trying to qualify, which I wasn't able to do.  If any members wanna do airborne training for me and possibly qualify for sniper training for me IM me and I will send you my account info.  Yea its kinda cheating but damn I'm getting desperate.

Edited to add:  Damn its annoying that kids who havn't ever gone through basic have higher honor than me.  Cripes I did at least one push up for every second these guys played.

I second what BoomStick says...anyone with an interest in AR15s and a decent computer should be playing this game.

Have you played Basrah Nights yet?  That map is awesome.  I only play DC. After playing DC, BF42 feels so very slow. My clan tag is Ir8. I don't know if either one of the servers have been upgraded yet as a bunch of our guys went to AsylumLan this weekend.

Yes, they paid a lot of attention to sound. The AA team was out at a lot of bases recording the sounds; some of the guys got a trip up to Fort Lewis. They've been doing some work with Lucas Arts, too. Some of the sounds from Minority Report were recorded from USMC LCACs.

Because of the playback limitations on sound equipment a lot of the sounds are mixed to make them sound more "real". The .50 cal has some howitzer sounds mixed in.

I'm getting a steady rate of 150-160kB/sec. Not too shabby, but it still is going to take 1.5hrs.

3d Gamers is the bling. That link works, is a simple .exe file, and downloads without hitches.

I love PC games (Falcon 4, MS CFS, Mech Warrior to name a few) but I can't get interested in FPS games that simulate doing something that I can do for real.

That said, you're right on about AA2. The amazing thing is it was created and exists as a recruiting tool that you get for free.

Are there any of these games that are online interactive, yet designed smart?  I play Medal of Honor online now and then, but I hate the game. There's no tactics involved in it, just people running around a mouse maze shooting each other in the back. I want a smart game!

Are there any online interactive FPS that are like this? Or at least not as bad as MOH?

Fell fortunate because of my Voodoo3 drivers I’m about to go Spec ops on my computer with real iron sight. SOB was working and now it just gives some farging error.

Any help be very appreciated. Anyone know anything about Voodoo3 cards and win XP?
