Called around in my AO and was told 90cents-$1.00/lb.

Once place the price dropped 30 cents when I told them it was once fired rifle casings ($1.20 down to 90 cents).

Thoughts?

Light brass around here, less than usual brass, don't know current price.

I realize its a commodity and will fluctuate, just looking for historical range.

I can buy scrap brass casings / range brass from local yard for $1.50 a lb.

Fired brass is probably viewed as "contaminated".

Everything is starting to drop over the last 3 months.

Cu down about 40c/lb since spring.    Brass follows suit.

Most of the stuff I work with is #2 ( tinned braid )   It's down to about $2.10 now,  I am at the point where I will probably just start squirreling it away

I sold a Rubbemaid tub of 30-06 just along with some aluminum channel from a project  a few weeks ago. Netted $40 or so for the brass. iirc is was a little over a dollar a pound.

More because of the dirt from range pickups than primers or loaded rounds, but it is a concern.

Yes sir, at least around my AO and none of the scrap yards will accept it.

I got like $1.30/lb in my AO a few months back for some brass that was too dinged up to do anything with

Appreciate the replies guys.

Wonder if this tariff war with china will drive the prices up?

It's the anvil in the primer cup that turns recyclers away or nets you a cheaper price when trying to sell it.

Unfortunately.... The only way they’ll take it is if you smelt it yourself and it’s not worth the money for the equipment and time to do that for me.

My scrap yard treats it like regular metal. .05 per pound. I don’t sell it.

It is.

Some places won't take it because they fear live rounds in the batch. Also the primers make it mixed metal.

I was thinking up as there would be reluctance to buy from China due to the high tariff,  therefore the U.S. buyers would purchase domestically.

Why wouldn't you hold onto your brass for now?  Price will go up the next time there is either inflation or a metals shortage.

I just save it until no more will fit into my 3 gallon bucket.  It is about 1" from the top now, so I should be good for another year before it fills up with unusable brass.

This. I sold 2K of 556 brass. Got .07 per for first 1K, told him he was over paying and sold next 1K for .04 each. This is to a friend.

I keep storing the rest.

Not to mention the lead styphnate.

OP, if you want to get paid for spent casings, sort them by cartridge in lots of 1000 and sell them on the EE.

10 years ago a huge upsurge in base metal prices was caused by China trying to upgrade their housing. The Chinese .GOV built lots of high-rise housing but much of it is unoccupied today because the cost to put it up and the rents necessary, the people couldn't afford it because they don't earn that much. With lowered demand, many of the Chinese steel mills have gone bankrupt and the prices of the base metals have plummeted. The Chinese economy today is probably in recession, even thought the official numbers indicate that China is doing okay,  but they will never admit it.

I know for a fact that much of the recyclable waste generated in the US is sent to China; but since China's economy is in recession, the value of the recyclable waste has plummeted to the point where the US trash haulers have to pay the Chinese to take it off their hands.

1.30 to  1.60 locally depends if their contract is filled or they are low . I’m allowed to sort out any cases I want at mine  for trade lb for lb  or purchase  barrels of it .

Not a scrap yard exactly, used to buy 5.56 and 7.62 by the bucket full off of Ft Hood PDO. Clinton put an end to that.

Since most folks selling brass are selling stuff THEY cannot reload, I would not touch any of it.

Scrap place around here won't take firearm brass anymore. A few years back they wouldn't take it unless it was deprimed. Someone probably gave them a bunch of mixed brass, steel, and aluminium stuff and they just said fuck it not worth the effort.

My LE agency used to send ours back to a commercial reloading company for cash or credit on any of our practice ammo purchase. We would send back on average 40-45K empties a year. We would generate about $1K-1.5K year cash/ credit. By no means a great amount of money but it bought 4-5 extra cases of ammo/yr or repair parts for the other weapons systems or essentials for new hires.
