So, I had a fire that totally destroyed my house on 17 Dec 2016. Lo, these many months later, I may be able to move back in the end of next month to a much better house. Here's how it looks as of yesterday. Sweet!

Glad you are getting your house back.
Just curious though, do you not like windows? |
|
nevermind.
Edited because from the context I think the OP is serious. |
|
Sorry for all your troubles and enjoy the new house.
Where are the windows? |
|

the brick work hurts my eyes, kind of like cheap 3D glasses...what is up with it? |

Congrats.
Doesn't look like you'll be getting very much natural light in there, not very may windows that I see. Are you gonna be putting a fence up? Always seems odd to see houses in close proximity without fences to divide/privatize the back yards... ETA: I see I'm not the first to comment about the windows. Regardless, congrats again for getting the new build after the loss... |
|
It sure looks like there are very small windows and only a couple big enough to get out in case there is a fire again!

I'm not fond of windows, no. They are typically made of glass and negate locks, plus allowing the evil nukular deathball rays in. The third bedroo...office has no windows, AND a steel reinforced exterior grade door now, and fireboard drywall.
When we did the plans I was all, "Well, make this room windowless." But it was a "bedroom" on the drawings. Can't do that. All bedrooms must have a minimum sized window large enough for someone to egress under the national building code, in case of a fire. "Well, what if that was an office, and not a bedroom?" "Yep! No problem!" So the gun room is an office. It says so right there!" |

I hope you really, really like it because nobody else is going to want to buy and live in that pillbox.

You've prewired each of the corners of the house for 3 POE drops for your camera system, right?

well, Arfcom certainly runs the gamut..
We had vacuum out the saw dust guy. me with the structural engineer... none of the walls lined up guy.. tiny shitter in the roof guy and now no windows dude. |

The rear lot is fenced, I'll be installing a gate for the horse, and a 'lectric fence so she doesn't butt-lean it, which I had bought all that literally the day before the fire so I still have it all. The bedrooms have egress windows, the office/gunroom has a commercial grade door (it opens out, with steel studs and a full commercial deadbolt. The room itself has double thick fireboard drywall and Simplex-Grinnell fire protection sprinklers with glass ampoule fuses)
The porch used to be part of the LR, but Roxie needs a place to go in a hailstorm. And fuck windows, I hate sunlight, and clear skies. I wish it was 100% overcast 100% of the time or night. |
|
OP you should have done windows and just put the 3M film inside and outside, and then built nice steel shutters for them...gonna make resale suck with no windows...
|
|
I don't know what y'all are bitching about. What he lacks in windows he makes up for in firing ports. I know whose house I'm going to when the zombies come.
|
|
Can you ever get the smoke smell out of it? Not sure if the brick retains some of it

OP is different but I bet the chicks don't dig it.
Good for you if its what you want. |

Are property taxes where you live calculated by the number of panes of glass?

... looks very nice! A neighborhood house burnt down a few years ago. The block stood and builders started around that. Completely refurbished. Been on the market now for almost a year now. No takers. Not sure why it's not selling, but I have my suspicions
