You must listen to very loud, Bruce Cockburn album Stealing fire Favorite song: Who put the bullet hole in peggy's kitchen wall; also a good song about what to do if you have a rocket launcher

Geez, you NEED help. Get over here and put these headphones on NOW! [:)] No flame, but so far you have listed what I consider some of the WORST tunes by the most mediocre bands, and I don't know where to start. J. Geils Centerfold? [puke] Actually, their heyday was in the 70's, and Full House, the live CD, was their best (just a bar band when you get down to it). We already discussed BOC, another 70's band for the most part. But if you like these songs then I may not be able to save you. Your ears have been corrupted and mutated by the evil music schlock mediocrity conspiracy, and it might be too late! [:D]
Don Henly? Styx? puleeeeze make it stop!!!! |

Well, am I glad I walked in at th right moment. Napster, sadly, has gon through all of the top-40 stuff and has started effectively filtering a lot of good 70's and 80's. I've got 13gigs of this kind of good stuff. I'd be happy to share with anyone on the board via CD-r or usenet, or direct transfer, especially those revealing themselvs to be sweet young things with whom I can shamelessly flirt.
To start very basically on your list: I think you'd like 70's too... Rush - try also "closer to the heart" Queen - oh, so many... "crazy little thing called love", "Bohemian rhapsody", "Somebody to love" Billy Squier - "Lonely is the night" "Everybody wants you" J Geils band - "Must of got lost" "Freeze Frame", "Love Stinks" Clash - "Should I stay or should I go" Don Henley - "Boys of Summer", "All she wants to do is dance" Tom Petty - "Mary Jane's last dance" I think you'd like: John Cougar Mellencamp, Some Billy Joel, some Elton John, Bad Company, Foreigner, Billy Idol, Bob Seeger,Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, Dir Straits, and many, many more. Snd me an e-mail @ [email protected] |

It looks like you're more into the late-70's early-80's than classic rock, which is normally the early to mid-70's. But that's cool, the 80's had some good stuff as well.
Zeppelin - dye'r maker (sp), gallows pole, ramble on, tangerine, houses of the holy (album), lemon song, babe I'm gonna leave you, the song remains the same (live album), anything off Led Zeppelin 3 or 4. Kansas - carry on my wayward son, dust in the wind, etc. Hall & Oates - Rich girl, Sarah smile, She's gone (70's pop, but good pop). Alphaville - Forever young (the 80's mantra). Boston - late 70's. More than a feeling, long time, smokin', peace of mind. And may I suggest "low rider" by War for those nights when you're really wasted. |

Dramarama- Anything, Anything
DeadorAlive-You Spin Me Right Round Bangels-Hazy Shade of Winter Aerosmith-if you ask me pick any, might not be your style though I'm curious, what kind of connection you have? Personally, I feel I'm not really getting my money's worth out of this cable modem I've got sitting here now that Napster is virtually worthless. I'm gonna try Gnutella or OpenNap soon I think, they are decentralized versions of Napster but they take a bit more care to use, with Gnutella if you're not careful you could end up sharing more than the MP3 files like say certain photographs you don't want getting out. Napster is MP3 only which made it kinda safer to use. |
56K but going to dsl. already have hazy shade of winter, cool jam. only thing i hate about nap is they have to mispell it to keep it on. so you have to figure out how a idiot would spell it if you want it.
If you can get cable in your area, ditch dsl. With cable, real late at night you can get up to 1 mb a second downloads. Of course, it depends on how many of your neighbors are on the hub and how late they stay up.
You think that's bad, you should see the idiots on the web who write in what they call "elite" or "hacker" by using symbols instead of letters.
"wild" would look something like "'//!ld" or worse Ain't the internet fabulous? Hehe, forgot a song, how about Josie Cotton "Johnny, are you queer?" Also, I forgot who sang it orginally, "Kids In America" is a decent song from back then, "LEN" does a cover of that song but I forget who did the original. I've got a bit of 80s stuff on my computer but it's nothing like what my buddy has on his work machine, about 8 gigs worth that they share on their network that has around 50-60gigs of music on it. I barely have a gig worth of music total. Most of my stuff that I've downloaded from Napster is country, hard rock, and some bagpipes. Just wondering, Treetop and SteyrAUG both probably are familiar with it, but have you listened to any of the old "Ministry" tracks? |
Yeah, "Everyday is Halloween" was another of the great anthems of the 80's. I think Live 105 (SF Bay Area) got 10 years out of that song.
It sustained me through the better part of highschool, then I finally got a CD player and I never updated my library of Ministry songs from tape to CD. I do have a couple of them on my computer though, if I want to listen to all the songs I go back and grab the tapes and throw them in the home system. Stuff will melt your brain if you turn it up loud enough.
For a real brain melt, come over and I'll park my 100 wt. Marshall half-stack in front of you and crank the Strat. It doesn't get any better than that!

Classic 80's Rock? 4yrs. old in the 80's. Goddamn, when did I get old? Uh,just about anything from Van Halen in the 80's rocks(David Lee Roth era).

I used to have about 400watts continous power in my old Ford Ranger, driving down the road at 50mph the road would vibrate before you when the base hit really hard. Got pretty interesting when the four channels would start doing some surround sound effects on you, it had pretty good imaging in that truck so that it was your own personal rock concert. Live music was the greatest. Kinda been missing having a sound system in my truck but the collection of firearms is nice to have. Now my music tastes have really changed, it would be a riot to chase around some of the bassheads in this town while blasting some pipeband melodies from my truck. I know that bagpipes will cut through that bass line of theirs like a hot knife through butter, they can run but they can't escape me!

Took a look down westbound road,
Right away, I had made my choice Headed out to my big two-wheeler, I was tired of my own voice Took a head on the northern plains, And just rolled that power on... Twelve hours out of Mackinaw City Stopped in a bar to have a brew Met a girl and we had a few drinks And I told her what I'd decided to do She looked out the window for a long, long moment Then she looked into my eyes She didn't have to say a thing I knew what she was thinking Roll, roll me away, Won't you roll me away tonight I too am lost, I feel double-crossed And I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right We never said a word, We just walked out and got on that bike And we rolled And we rolled clean out of site We rolled across the high plains Deep into the mountains Felt so good to me Finally feelin' free Somewhere along a high road The air began to turn cold She said she missed her home I headed on alone Stood alone on a mountain top, Staring out across the Great Divide I could go east, I could go west It was all up to me to decide Just then I saw a young hawk flying... And my soul began to rise And pretty soon My heart was singing Roll, roll me away, I'm gonna roll me away tonight Gotta keep rollin', gotta keep ridin', Gotta keep searchin' till I find what's right And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight And I said, next time Next time We'll get it right |

Asshole
Sung by Dennis Leary (spoken) Folks, I'd like to sing a song about the American dream. About you, about me. About the way our American hearts beat Way down in the bottom of our chests. About that special feeling we get in the cockles of our hearts, Maybe below the cockles, maybe in the sub-cockle area, Maybe in the liver. Maybe in the kidneys. Maybe even in the colon - I don't know. (singing) I'm just a regular Joe, with a regular job. I'm your average white, suburbanite slob. I like football, and porno, and books about war. I've got an average house, with a nice hardwood floor. My wife, and my job, my kids and my car, My feet on my table - and a cuban cigar. But sometimes that's just not enough, To keep a man like me interested! (Oh no! No way! Uh uh!) No, I gotta go out and have fun, At someone else's expense! (Oh yeah! Yeah yeah! Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!) I drive really slow, in the ultra-fast lane, While people, behind me, are goin' insane! I'm an asshole! (He's an asshole!) I'm an asshole! I'm an asshole! (He's a asshole! Such an asshole!) I use public toilets, and I piss on the seats. I walk around in the summertime sayin' "How about this heat?" I'm an asshole! (He's an asshole! What an asshole!) I'm an asshole! (He's the world's biggest asshole!) And sometimes I park, in handicapped spaces, While handicapped people, make handicapped faces! I'm an asshole! (He's an asshole!) I'm an asshole! I'm an asshole! (He's a real fucking asshole!) Maybe I shouldn't be singin' this song - Ranting and raving and carrying on. Maybe they're right when they tell me I'm wrong. . . . . NAHHHHH! I'm an asshole! (He's an asshole! What an asshole!) I'm an asshole! (He's the world's biggest asshole!) (spoken) You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 El Dorado convertible - Hot pink! With whale-skin hubcaps, an all-leather cow interior, and big brown baby seal eyes for headlights! Yeah! And I'm gonna drive down the highway at 100 miles an hour, Gettin' one mile per gallon, wolfin' down quarter pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds That come in those old-fashioned, non-biodegradeable styrofoam containers. And when I'm done suckin' down those greaseball burgers, I'm gonna throw the containers right out the side, And wipe my mouth on the American flag, and there's not a God-damn thing anybody can do about it! You know why? Two words - nuclear fuckin' weapons! Russia, Germany, Romania, they can have all the democracy they want, They can have a big democracy cakewalk right through the middle of Tiennamen Square And it won't make a lick of difference, because we got the bombs. Okay? John Wayne's not dead, he's frozen! And when we find a cure for cancer, We're gonna thaw'r out the Duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off! You know how pissed the Duke's gonna be? Have you ever taken a cold shower? Well multiply that by fifteen million and that's how pissed the Duke's gonna be. I'm gonna get the Duke, and Lee Marvin, and John Casavetti and a case of Whiskey, And I'm gonna drive down to Texas - (sung) I'm an asshole! (I'm an asshole!) I'm an ashole! I'm an asshole! (He's the world's biggest asshole!) A, S, S, H, O, L, E! Everybody! A, S, S, H, O, L, E! (trail into non-vocal chanting and barking) |

I was starting to feel old what with all the talk about `80's "classic rock". I can remember there was a movement among true music die-hards in the late `70's to put an end to disco. I think I still have a "Disco Sucks" t-shirt somewhere. No sooner than disco died, here comes "New Wave". [puke] I almost had to quit listening to the radio for a while because that crap was all they were playing. Huey Lewis - Paleezz... Of course, then came rap. A few years ago I was in a club while on vacation and they were playing disco. Right away I noticed that, considering the garbage that came out later, it wasn't all that bad anymore. I'm no prude - nowadays I like Tool, Alice in Chains, Metallica, STP, but I'd like to physically beat up that little fag that sings for GreenDay. |
I must have strange tastes in music. I liked disco, and the stuff they used to play on the radio in the 1980's.
But to me the ultimate sound of the 80's was the Scorpion's "Love at First Sting" album. Loud, powerful, and heavy-duty without being too mean sounding. That "Eye 2 Eye" album the Scorps came out with a couple years back was totally lame in comparison. Pretty lame by any standard, I guess. |
Do a search on "70s" or "80s" in the artist field. You'll get lots. That is how I started my huge collection. I have 3200 MP3's and have run out of stuff to D/L. There is only so much "geezer rock" out there! Have fun.
