I can come up with the funds to get either a nice dot, ACOG, or 1-4X.
Never had an ACOG, and it seems sort of neat. |

I have two, and have been cruising through EE with an eye out for a 3rd.

My favorite optic, plan to pick more up for more of my rifles.

You pay over a grand for them because of the radiologicals. Far as I know, no one else makes optics with tritium in them. Tritium vials aint like computer chips, they have a very small parts train, so you would think they would be cheaper than Kazakhstepi pubes/ |

Great optics, but just a fixed 4x.
I have a couple and I like them because that's what I'm trained on. But a durable 1-4x or 1-6x would be nice |
|
Rugged, easy, amazing glass.
Go for it. My TA-11 is awesome. |
|
Get a March 3-24x42 FFP and an offset a PA MRD.
Aint much bigger than the old 2.5-8x36 that Leupold made. You can find them for about the same price. Good scope. the Best ACOGs are the 3x24 and 3.5x35. |
|
Yes it's worth it...i like my 3.5x ones eye relief over the 4x rco so much I almost sold it to buy another 3.5...trt both out before buying
|
|
With 1-6/8x quality variables in the same price range, no they are not. I have 2 but paid used prices for them.

Lov ACOG.
Used them in Iraq and they take a beating buy hold the zero. Bought my first red dot...aim point patrol a year or back. Nothing beats a ACOG Wish they didn't cost so much |

1-4's are nice but like most tube scopes they will loosen and cant with time/use. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I would think since the mil is using them, I would assume they are really good. I have never heard anything bad about them except the price. I have never used one so its hard to say. I do not plan on going to battle, so I don't think I need one. For me, I prefer a nice 1-4x with an illuminated reticle. YMMV

Srprised no one else uses fiber optic rods to Illiminate optics. Seems cost effective.
|

Most people who get one get two or more.
That should tell you something. The first few times I went shooting up to 500 yards away I had a blast, it truly unlocks the potential of the 5.56 round and your AR. Now? ACOG's make it too easy. If SHTF, my AR with my ta31 would be the rifle of choice and a glock 19 on my side. |

Only glass I've ever seen that was better (for similar money, not talking top end S&B) is Browe and it was IMHO better than ACOG glass. |

I have one that is about 30 years old, has been through hell, tritium is dead but the glass is still bright & clear, a superb optic.
It's going to be going back to trijicon for lamp replacement soon. |

I think @Sylvan had some experiences using fixed 3x or 4x ACOG in combat. I don't remember what he said and I don't want to mischaracterize. I just remember that after reading his recount, I went from a fixed 3x ACOG to a variable 1-6x scope.

Yes. It's worth it.
Buy one and you'll want one for every other gun. |

Yes, worth every penny. TA33G-H on a LaRue LT-105 is the perfect combo.
|
|
I have 4. Definitely worth it for my needs. The glass is incredible, and it is pretty much bombproof.
|
|
Acog might be a bit out dated compared to other optics. But prism scopes in general are very robust, and the glass clarity is usually very good. The one set back is the weight, but Acogs are pretty much bomb proof.
I guess one other negative is the eye relief. If you shoot nose to charging handle it isn't even an issue. |

damnit. I typed a response and it disappeared.
I like to protect my low post count. anyway. Yeah, I had a TA31F and liked it a lot. Did great. Until it didn't. Was on a surprise two way at 35M and that BAC that worked so well on the range went to shit. My mind kept swapping between 4X and 1X at the worst possible fucking time. This is not something that can be replicated on the range. Anyway, I ended up winning that fight but came to the conclusion that ultimately from 200M out you can take or leave that fight. Both sides can, and often do, walk away. But inside 50M somebody is going to win and somebody is going to lose. And if you want to win that fight nothing is better than a 1X RDS. Now, some people like the 1-6 scopes. I am thinking of buying a Razor 1-6 and trying that out. I have heard they are great and almost no different than a dedicated RDS. However, ultimately, you must first and foremost win the close in fight. So I would not recommend a magnified scope as your only scope on a fighting rifle. I liked the ACOG so much I tried the 1.5X and it was still too much. My SBR currently has the Vortex 1X prism scope. Which I like (I have astigmatism which limits my options. With glasses I like the basic M68 Aimpoint but I normally don't wear glasses) So if you want to go ACOG, great. its a fantastic combat scope. but I would put a piggy dot on it. And if you are going to do that, you are in Vortex/Swarvo 1-6 territory which gives you more options. |

They are very nice, but the eye relief is what made me sell mine. I have an Elcan 1x/4x and a trijicon 1-4x variable that I prefer. The Elcan is the tits but too expensive.

Loved the .223 one so much, bought the .308.
Have you looked through one? Your decision gets easier once you look through that amazing glass. |
