I was unqualified.
I sent her to the 'Zone to get the parts and I did them after I go home from work. 
Car is fine Starry Bra and now she can change the brake pads herself.

Pads and rotors went into the wife's minivan today.
That and a transmission fluid exchange. Took me maybe a half hour, She doesn't know what she's got. |

He is a worthless, my 15 yr old Daughter can change brake pads.
Things my kids must do before the get their license 1. Change oil, lube joints 2. Rotate tires 3. Change brake pads 4. Change wiper blades Anyone who can't do the above doesn't need to be driving IMO. |

Most vehicles already now are near minimum thickness on the rotors from the factory.
The days of turning them is over. I've done my fair share, and imma millennial .

For guys saying, did you replace the rotors? That is an as needed item. Meaning you change them as needed. when replacing brakes, inspect the for damage, grooves, odd wear and if you are feeling frisky or suspicious take the rotors off and check them on the bench for warping or get out the micrometer and see if they still in the usable range.

There is an entire generation of males who can't do a damn thing unless it involves the use of an app. Was at my moms this weekend replacing the pads and rotors on her step daughters car. Her husband has parkenson, so he can't do it but he still tries to help. The other two males there, his son in law and grandson, poster children beta males. Only time they got their faces out of their phones was to eat. My 12 year old son watched me do one side and then he did the other. Every time I'm under the hood of a car, he's with me. Even my son and daughter noticed they were betas and were sickened by it. I told him that's why I had you hold the flashlight for all those years.

Set up a meeting, one-on-one, but tell him not to tell your daughter about it.
Have a man to man talk. Let us know how that goes. The only real difficult part about changing pads is if the bolt holding down the caliper is rusted on. I had a Mazda where the opposite end of the bolt was rusted. I had to use a 1/2" breaker bar with a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter to break it. But once you break it free, it's all easy. |

Wtf? That's a no go around my house. I'm glad my daughters fiance has skills and not afraid to tackle anything. Even if he don't know he will find out and find a way. Glad he ain't no pussy. My daughters can rotate tires and change oil. Pretty sure along the way they have assisted me in most automotive mechanical issues. They are can do. Wow. Just wow. ETA: I had put off a brake job for far too long b/c it's a Lexus and Toy/Lex calipers are notorious for seizing and just didn't want to untuck it at that time. It got cold, bitter cold. Heater in detached garage did jack shit, but once you're balls deep into a job, you finish the job. Fucking sliding pin calipers and three out of the four of those calipers had rusted pins that were pretty much welded to the caliper. I had to torch those bitches till the garage warmed up lol. But I did get the job done (and bought new pins). Next time, which will be semi soon, I'm just buying new calipers. It wasn't worth the effort. |

Do not turn the rotors if they are not vibrating. There is no need whatsoever. If they are, just buy new OEM rotors. Not VatoZone.
