Both true. Now replace the pic with a GI with two watches, and a US official with a hobo lurking in the background.
What changes? |

P.S.
That flag pic BTW was a re-enactment, the first time they put the flag up there, it wasn't documented. So the pic is actually not the first time nor is the guy who is putting up the flag the first one. But it looks credible enough for the unwashed masses. |

How exactly do you know what a blurry person in front of a dumpsters status in life is?

I'm usually the first to call out BS assumptions about Russia, but that one is reasonable. A lot of pensioners are poor in Russia due to the way the Soviet pension funds were wiped out by inflation. We can't KNOW the story of the blurry person, but the assumption is probably correct. View Quote Everyone there knows that pensioners live a destitute life on fixed income of about $100, if that. To the point where they cannot afford to turn on the lights, and seat in the dark. That in conjunction with the fact that cities like Moscow are the most expensive in the world. |

We gave the fucking reds too much help in WW2.
We should have held back a little, let the USSR and the Nazis bleed each other further. Too bad FDR was a Marxism enthusiast. |

This is perhaps the most well-known pic of WWII, arguably, and has been circulated a gazillion times not just on the eastern side of the iron curtain but world-wide. A soviet solder with a red flag over Reichstag, the symbol of victory. But nobody notices something peculiar about it. Can you find it? http://i.imgur.com/bGom6LR.jpg While you are looking it, here is a more recent photo. Ex-president / vice-president (and now maybe future president, again) Medvedev tests his iPhone skills. There is another gem in that photo. http://i.imgur.com/u6w25mu.jpg . . . . . . . . Here is the first one zoomed in. It was common for the liberators to pillage the western European countries and this one is no exception. Watches were a common item. Comrade Zhukov sent an entire train full of pillaged stuff to the east. Interestingly, later Stalin used that as leverage to keep Zhukov in fear of an imminent arrest. http://i.imgur.com/m1oWFZw.jpg The second one should be self-explanatory. Billionaires among poverty. In the background, a destitute pensioner digs in the trash for something. Not an uncommon sight given the average pension is something like $80-100 / month. Barely enough to keep the lights on. As a footnote, Putin is the wealthiest man in the world, off-paper. He is too smart to keep income on paper like Gates, etc. and pay taxes on it. He owns a significant share in all the gas/oil/etc companies and through middlemen so it cannot be traced to him. Nobody really knows how much stock he has, it wouldn't be possible to determine. In that county, you don't want to declare your wealth because the next guy on the throne may take it all. http://i.imgur.com/3NWUDD1.jpg View Quote Why go back to WWII? When the breadline photos of the Cold War were just as bad but the leftist media downplayed them. Ed |

Stalin has been trying to form an anti-Hitler alliance for all the way till summer 1939, but nobody would join him. It's unfortunate that I have to support the OP's argument (even though I think his overall idea is bad and these pictures could have been easily taken in America or of GIs in WWII), but it doesn't really matter whether that blurry person behind Medvedev is really digging thru garbage or not. Russia certainly has some people that go dumpster-diving (just like America), so even if the journalist if lying in that particular case, given enough time he could find a pic of Russian politician with a poor person in the background. Well that was done at the raising of the american flag on a famous mount? While we are all criptic wanna guess what that was lol. View Quote The second flag-raising at Iwo Jima was not a PR stunt. It was done because the first flag was only a 2'x3' and the new one was much larger. The photographer who took the still photo, Joel Rosenthal, went up and the Marine Combat Cameraman, TSSG Bill Genaust, went as well. Genaust took several feet of 8mm film of the event and Rosenthal almost missed the picture and even thought he had missed it since he looked away just before they raised the flag and snapped a picture without looking at the viewfinder. He took a second picture where all the men at the top of the hill are obviously posed in a group, standing in lines. Weeks later when he got back to the ship where the photograhpers and journalists staged from someone asked him if the picture of the flag-raising was staged. He didn't know that the first photo he took was even usable, much less had received so much acclaim so responded that of course it was staged . . . Marines don't line up spontaneously like that, even in the middle of a battle. The very famous photo of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima was NOT staged, it was spontaneous. The film footage from the Marine CC shows that clearly. TSSG Bill Genaust did not live to see the end of the battle for Iwo Jima and so never got any recognition for his film footage while the Marine Corps almost never admits that a Marine CC was there. |

I assume SOME officers managed to get SOME stuff loaded onto military trains, but it would be quite hard to get wagonloads of cargo through USSR without getting caught.
