Maybe they could put a tax on any act of criminal violence committed with a gun.
If the criminal doesn't pay the tax, then they could put him in prison. Since liberals don't seem to want to imprison people for criminal violence, maybe they would be willing to do it for tax evasion since they like taxes so much. |

So not only did this not solve any gun violence, he wants to increase it because it wasnt enough revenue to fund his pet projects, so he can drive away even more business. This coupled with their living wage BS and I give that city 10 years before its another Detroit.

One store now makes up 83% of the tax paid to the city now and he's fighting the tax.
Man if there was a work around to stay in his location with demo firearms but have the customers officially purchase and pick up at another facility outside of the city as a big F-you to Seattle I would be all for it. |

The only problem?
Most of the gun stores closed shop and left Seattle a long time ago. No one in their right mind buys guns or ammo in Seattle. Plenty of the surrounding cities that don't have a "gun sales tax". The tax has been a complete failure. They city is spending its own money on funding the studies - what the tax was supposed to fund. |

Fun fact: Seattle City Council members make $117,000 per year. Second highest pay for a city council position in the nation.

The entire "Tax" thing has gotten ridiculously out of hand; gun tax, sin tax, soda tax, luxury tax, yadda yadda. Then we have situations where cities that have a dollar shortfall and/or unexpected infrastructure upgrade funding shortfall, so they vote in a property tax hike. Of course after that property tax get approved and implemented the owned property value miraculously gets surveyed and goes up shortly after, therefore raising taxed value again. Taxed left and right this crap needs to be simplified and limited. I also think taxes should not be used to try to discourage purchases that some leftist voting board doesn't agree with.

BELLEVUE, WA – Attorneys for the Second Amendment Foundation and the senior editor of its publication, TheGunMag.com, have filed a renewed motion for summary judgment against the City of Seattle for its refusal to provide specific revenue information on the city’s so-called “gun violence tax.”
“Seattle’s continued refusal to reveal specific revenue data on its so-called ‘gun violence tax’ amounts to the city thumbing its nose at the Public Records Act (PRA),” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. “Our renewed motion includes an important statement from the city’s largest firearms retailer that includes a stunning revelation that may explain the city’s reluctance to come clean with an aggregate revenue figure. “When the city said it had collected less than $200,000,” he added, “it is apparently a lot less. Their pie-in-the-sky revenue forecast when they rammed the tax through appears to have consisted of hot air and road apples.” Editor Dave Workman maintains that this is a First Amendment issue, and that the public has a right to know whether the original revenue forecast of between $300,000 to $500,000 was even remotely accurate. “The bottom line,” said Gottlieb, who also serves as TheGunMag.com publisher, “is that the people deserve an accurate revenue figure and the city stubbornly does not want to release it. Their argument that this is a taxpayer privacy issue just went up in smoke. We believe their reluctance to reveal a revenue figure has far more to do with the potential embarrassment of having been disastrously optimistic about the money they’d realize from what amounts to a gun control tax. We’re hopeful the court finds in our favor and forces the city to stop playing hide-and-seek.” Attorneys Steven Fogg and David Edwards, with Corr Cronin Michelson, Baumgardner Fogg & Moore LLP represent SAF and TheGunMag.com in this case, and also represent SAF, the National Rifle Association and National Shooting Sports Foundation in a challenge to the gun tax that has been referred to the state Supreme Court. The tax is being challenged as a violation of the 34-year-old state preemption act. If I'm not mistaken, there is only one store that still sells firearms within the city. Could be wrong though. Seattle gonna Seattle. Would love to be somewhere else.

The "gun" violence epidimic is real, but in this case it's not being caused by guns. See if you can find what these cities have in common:
These are per 100,000 people. They were made by someone defending Chicago as being "far from the worst gun violence city."
