I just glanced over some of the headlines and that phone was looks lit!  The camera is going to be amazing.  But the thing that really seals it is that $450 discount. Great way for Samsung to win back its burned Note 7 customers.

$425 discount for Note 7 customers

https://www.cnet.com/news/galaxy-note-8-samsung-discount-trade-in/

During the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 8 on Wednesday, Samsung announced it would be giving those who bought the Galaxy Note 7 a massive discount on the Galaxy Note 8 by trading in their current phone.

Eligible customers will get an instant trade-in value worth up to $425 through a special offer on Samsung.com, the company said. The discount will be about half-off, with various prices from carriers listing the phone between $930 and $960.

You'll be able to pre-order the Note 8 from Samsung starting August 24, and it's expected to arrive on September 15.

Bah, I'm just an s6 edge customer

Also sounds like it's a trade in credit if you still have it.... So big talk, few customers

Note 4 here.  If I got half off I'd upgrade to the new one as well.

I was waiting to hear the specs because the camera on my Note 5 was having issues (I cracked the lens and replaced it a while back). I removed it the other night and wiped it down, turns out there was stuff on the lens and now no more foggy pictures.

I'll hold off for now since the phone still works.

I have a Note 4 and I'd like to upgrade.  Not at $900+ though!

If a third party retailer will subsidize the cost of the phone, I'd pay up to $300 for it.

Well, absolutely no reason to retire my Note 2 for this turd.

Zero features that anyone with an actual life outside stupid gadget tricks can find appealing IMHO.

Non- removable battery?....... Fuck you Samsung.

I just pre-ordered through Verizon. Must be some Samsung loyalty all around. I will trade in my s6 edge and receive 336$ credit as opposed to what would normally be $114. 336 is more than I could sell it outright for so... Now I wait.

Does anybody have a line on the best place to buy one, preferably with subsidized cost?

I've been waiting to upgrade my Note 4 to the Note 8.  I will not be paying full retail, neither up front, nor in installments.  I would pay $299 with a 2-year contract.

Just finish my pre-order at Samsung.com.  For all you Note 7 owners, there's a link there for the $425 offer. You only have to type in your email from which you registered your Samsung account and it leads you through it.  Really great deal.

If you're trading in another phone, they have those listed there too.

Looking forward to getting a stylus again!

BTW don't even try calling their sales line.  There's a recorded message saying that they're so busy that you should call back tomorrow.

Samsung lost my repeated business with the note 7 and I shifted to the Pixel, they will have to do something special to get it back on the 9.

I really got fucked hard for buying a Note 7.

Probably more Verizon's fault than Samsung's.

Gonna sit this one out.

Just pre-ordered mine for about half price. Got the full $425 trade-in for my note 5. Picked up the s3 watch for a good deal too. Just gotta wait until about the 12th for delivery. Word is us old Note 7 guys get them a few days early. Finally the wait is over. Kudos to Samsung for not forgetting us.

If you're a prior Note 7 owner, you can get $425 from the Samsung website.

For the Note 5, I see that it lists $300 trade in there.

I had a note 8. It had shitty support and never got the most up to date android version. There was a known battery life issue and you couldn't even get quality batteries to replace it. I replaced it once and bought myself about 6 more months. Then, one day it wouldn't turn on, just up and dead as fuck. So fuck Samsung. Fuck em' right in the butthole.

Mile dad is convinced that all of the battery fires were industrial espionage.

Also, he has never loved a phone more than the Note.

Does this mean you still have to currently own the Note 7? I thought they kept them from charging over 60% after the second batch started catching fire. Drop a link to the discount or send me an IM. Previous note 7 owner x 2, but turned them in when they told us too.

There's a link on the Samsung website for any prior Note 7 owners. You just click on it and enter the email address you used to register your Note 7. It's pretty simple.

I'm still using a Note 3. I gave my upgrade to my wife last year and I'll have to wait another 6 months to use hers.

Still using my note4. It runs fine for what I need it for. Unless note8 is fundamentally different and improved I see no reason to go out and buy the latest/greatest. Plus I dont just jump right in v1.0 of anything. Maybe this one grenades instead of catching fire? Who knows yet.

No replaceable battery?!?! Yeah fuck that.

Some of you old note users sound like someone that won't let go of their old laptop because it still works. Upgrades are just that, upgrades.

The new one does everything your old one did, but better, and faster. No removeable battery, who cares. The batteries now are better than before. (not counting the note 7 battery lol) I had to replace the battery in my wife's s3 inside of 2 years. The one on my s6 is more than 2 years old and doing just fine.

But is your note 4 waterproof? That's a big part of why you won't see removeable batteries making a come back.

What groundbreaking feature are you looking for to make you say ok NOW it's worth it.

Arguably the best camera out there, waterproof, huge screen, newer software tricks, better performance, new standard USB-C, wireless quick charging, has the most pen features....oh, and more storage and the best hardware.

Sounds like an upgrade to me

Dunno, then.  I see people selling their Note 5s for more than that on eBay and Craigslist so try that.

Theres nothing left to break ground with smart phones. The only thing left is improved cameras and faster processing speed. Arguably screen resolution. Thats it.

Camera wise Im fine. Phone speed? Not a big deal. Theres little latency's here in there but not annoying enough to pay $1k to upgrade. Screen resolution? No big deal.

I use to upgrade all the time but that was back when new phones had something to offer. Now its just meh.
