What are your thoughts on whiskey decanters?

Waste of money unless you want to look fancy.

Stop using the "e".  It's Whisky D'cant'r.

I like 'em?  Particularly when they have whiskey in them.

Its what you put the cheap stuff in to serve to guests.

I happen to like them. There's something satisfying about drinking a nice whiskey from a good decanter and a fine crystal tumbler. Got both of these as wedding gifts. Didn't think much of them until I started using them. Now I dig it.

Buffalo Trace bourbon on the left. Dalmore cigar malt on the right.

Not in Kentucky where they make the good stuff

Up in the hills, decanter is spelled Mason Jar

This.

It's why I bought mine. Just serve some Jim Beam in it and everyone will be happy.

I do the opposite and keep my favorite (Templeton Rye) in mine.

My buddy found an old school whiskey shelf, so I keep them on that. It's gimmicky, and stupid, but I like it.

I like it and there is something kinda cool about the nice crystal decanter and tumbler that makes the bourbon more enjoyable.   I've always wanted a nice office with a walnut desk, with a decanter and tumblers sitting on it, and a couple nice high back leather upholstered chairs.  I can casually have friends "step into my office" and have a drink and discuss important matters.

For now we just hang out in the basement and drink from the bottle.

I didn't mean old school like 1800s, just past it's time.

Left light is out, I'll have to get on that.

I realize it should be just whiskey, butI keep some nice rum and vodka on it too.

My other liquor is above the sink.

Mostly, I'm a beer guy.

Nice.  Thanks for sharing. I have a bottle of that rum.  Picked it up in Georgetown Guyana where the distillery is.  Haven't tried it as I'm keeping the bottle to remind me what a wonderful place it is...

This is the correct answer. Same reason bars have well drinks. Can't see the label to identify the cheap booze. All the good stuff stays in the original bottle (usually).
