I got a ticket for speeding in a school zone this morning. I was going 55 which is the normal speed limit, but lights were flashing indicating school zone and reduced 35 mph speed limit. It's bad enough getting a ticket, but damn, school doesn't even start till next week. This kinda feels more like a money making scheme for the State rather than protecting children who weren't even present at the time...

Have you perhaps given thought to the fact that schools often have early registration, open houses, meet your teacher events?
Good ticket, sounds like. Just out of curiosity, how much is that going to set you back in thousands? Ouch |
|
Even I know if the lights are flashing you slow down even if there are no kids. Funny how laws work.

You're saying that you saw the flashing lights and ignored them?

In AL, if the lights were flashing you'd end up paying the ticket. Especially the week or two before school starts, there would be a lot of teacher and student activity at the school so many districts go ahead and flip the switch for the school zone.

Pick up a jar of vasaline so it won't hurt to much when your insurance company fucks you too

You got a ticket for not obeying a traffic sign.
It has nothing to do with the school's schedule. |

I'd call bullshit ticket. Around here they have those things flashing on weekends and holidays at random because someone didn't select the timer off button. Something is afuck. Court

You must obey traffic signs, period.
Did the sign say, "Disregard this sign if school is not in" ? No, it said "35MPH when light is flashing". |

I see a lot of people in my area of Texas speeding in school zones. Typically the same drivers every day. I always hope a child or family walking to school won't have to be run over for the speeder to learn a lesson. OP, I am not trying to be an ass but you earned that ticket. Perhaps consider this a wake up call before you had to learn the hard way? Please don't speed in a school zone when the light is flashing.

I got a ticket for "passing" a school bus that was on the other side of a 4 lane (5 counting turn) highway.
I was pretty pissed. The cop told me kids don't cross the highway, but if there isn't a divider in the median everyone has to stop. |

School zone speeding tickets are such a joke. They don't even let kids walk to school around here anymore. I've seen kids standing a block from the school, waiting on the bus to pick them up. Also, some of the schools with "school zone" signs sit 1/4 mile back from the road or are actually located on the side streets coming off of the main roads where the signs are. Fucking retarded.

lights were flashing
got a seat belt ticket while the copper was writing the ticket two school buses full of kids with no seat belts for any of them or the bus driver and then a caravan of party buses headed for the casino went by...no seat belts on them or the drivers either and people were up walking around with drinks in their hands... spell the straw in strawberry |

If the school zone light was flashing, you're pretty much SOL.

Most of the tickets I wrote were school zone violations...but kids were always around |

I'd at least hire a traffic attorney and tell them the situation. They almost never get a worse result than you will and chances are they'll get a better result.

I got threatened with 7 tickets for passing 7 stopped school busses with their lights on. They were pulled over waiting load kids for a field trip. No kids were out of school buildings at the time.
I was driving less than 25mph. I asked what my option was, I was told to wait until lights went off. I asked when that was. 20...30....minutes? The dude got pissed and told me to drive away. I said past the remaining school busses??? He said yes....I was like WTF!!!! I'd take the school schedule to court. If kids are in the intersection but you have a green light does that mean the light trumps all and you run the kids over???? |
|
What did the sign say.. when flashing, when students are present, a time? We had one I was always half hoping to get pulled over at... Had a stated time but the had it going at other times.. think I would have won that one.
