Currently we have the flag hung over our front door but we're looking for a more permanent mount.  There's literally a bazillion of them on Amazon and they all look craptastic, so... who makes a decent one?

I'm looking for something like this:

I got an adjustable one from Ace Hardware. Made in USA, around 20 bucks. Made of either polymer or powder coated metal, can't remember

I got tired of every one I ever bought twisting and breaking in the stiff breeze we seem to constantly get here, so I fabed my own out of aluminum.

Yes.
My flag, flag pole, and mount are Valley Forge and it's good stuff.
I used to have a cheap 1" diameter wood flag pole but the Valley Forge 1.25" diameter aluminum pole is definitely the way to go, and the mount is rock solid!
The only problem I've had is that the lower 'ring clip' was made out of plastic and it broke so I replaced it with an aluminum one.

Thanks I'll order those too.

A "Ban Me!" thread goes to four pages in four minutes, while a thread seeking advice on how best to hang an American flag has four people replying...

Made a really fugly one out of galvanized pipe and it was solid as hell. Still didn't stop the local activists? from stealing the flag (probably to burn given where I live).

Thanks for the advice gentlemen.  We went from this:

The Annin flag looks far nicer than $15 and the Valley Forge mount and flagpole are solid.

Very nice!
But be aware that no matter who's flag you use, depending on where you live it will have to be replaced.
Here in AZ, I go through at least two to three flags per year...

At only $15 for what is a very nice looking flag, I'll replace it monthly if necessary.

Mrs. Kikken's church will take old flags for proper disposal, so no worries there.
