But rank-and-file Democrats say the Russia-Trump narrative is simply a non-issue with district voters, who are much more worried about bread-and-butter economic concerns like jobs, wages and the cost of education and healthcare.

In the wake of a string of special-election defeats, an increasing number of Democrats are calling for an adjustment in party messaging, one that swings the focus from Russia to the economy. The outcome of the 2018 elections, they say, hinges on how well the Democrats manage that shift.

“We can't just talk about Russia because people back in Ohio aren't really talking that much about Russia, about Putin, about Michael Flynn,” Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) told MSNBC Thursday. “They're trying to figure out how they're going to make the mortgage payment, how they're going to pay for their kids to go to college, what their energy bill looks like.

“And if we don't talk more about their interest than we do about how we're so angry with Donald Trump and everything that's going on,” he added, “then we're never going to be able to win elections.”

Democrats can't really create jobs without using .gov money. The Government can create an environment which promotes economic growth, but by and large it can't force the economy and jobs to be better, only worse.

A lot of the Dems don't understand that, and the rest of them just want free everything for life (which is in direct conflict with reality).

I'd say most of America on both sides of the aisle is tired of the DC political wars over nothing, especially when most of America seems to be the casualty of it. Economy is still stagnant, insurance premiums skyrocketing, wages frozen, etc.

Regardless of the issue, nobody in DC seems to be focused on any sort of productive legislation (which Americans differ on what is productive of course) and totally focused on scoring points and securing more power for themselves.

We just had an election, Trump won, and people I think in general just want to see the Government function and then the people will weigh in in 2020 if they like the new direction or not. All this shit about Russians nd Flynn is stupid. I think most Americans are fairly sane and don't believe that the incoming President had an impeachable scandal brewing before he even took office.

The moderate wing of the Democrat Party - which could help them win elections - will be kept from power by the majority of ideologue Leftists currently in power. However, that far Left message is getting its ass kicked around the country. In all but the most Liberal of places, their message is rejected.

I heard David Brooks and EJ Dionne on NPR yesterday. Brooks (NPR's Trump-hating tame conservative) admitted the Russia thing is going nowhere and is a waste of time. Dionne is happy to keep digging though... I guess he hasn't got the message that nobody cares anymore.
