I just had the displeasure of listening to a progressive British windbag on the radio named Richard V. Reeves.
"If you’re a top earner, helping your child succeed can mean hurting the chances of children with fewer privileges. Play the game inspired by the new book, Dream Hoarders, by Richard V. Reeves." https://www.brookings.edu/interactives/are-you-a-dream-hoarder/ "America is becoming a class-based society. It’s now conventional wisdom to focus on the excesses of the top 1% — especially the top 0.01% — and how the ultra-rich are hoarding income and wealth while incomes for most other Americans are stagnant. But the more important, and widening, gap in American society is between the upper middle class and everyone else. Reeves defines the upper middle class as those whose incomes are in the top 20 percent of American society. Income isn’t the only way to measure a society, but in a market economy it is crucial because access to money generally determines who gets the best quality education, housing, health care, and other necessary goods and services. As Reeves shows, the growing separation between the upper middle class and everyone else can be seen in family structure, neighborhoods, attitudes, and lifestyle. Those at the top of the income ladder are becoming more effective at passing on their status to their children, reducing overall social mobility. The result is a fracturing of American society along class lines, not just an economic divide. Upper-middle-class children become upper-middle-class adults. These trends matter because the separation and perpetuation of the upper middle class corrode prospects for more progressive approaches to policy. Various forms of “opportunity hoarding” among the upper middle class make it harder for others to rise up to the top rung. Examples include zoning laws and schooling, occupational licensing, college application procedures, and the allocation of internships. Upper middle class opportunity hoarding, Reeves argues, results in a less competitive economy as well as a less open society. Inequality is inevitable and can even be good, within limits. But Reeves argues that society can take effective action to reduce opportunity hoarding and thus promote broader opportunity. This fascinating book shows how American society has become the very class-defined society that earlier Americans rebelled against — and what can be done to restore a more equitable society." My favorite line from the interview was "The upper middle class is obsessed with the idea of a meritocracy." |

Some loser that thinks life is a zero sum game wanting to drag other people down. Shocking.

How dare people:
1. Want the best for their children. 2. Believe that the most qualified person for a position, get that position. Shame on you! |
|
Just another way for those that work for success to have to pay for those who are also unwilling to do the same.
Hoard baby, hoard! |
|
The core belief of this guy seems to be that money is in a finite supply. How can one hoard what isn't a limited resource?
A couple making $60k a year each is rich yo! |

I worked very hard to get to the income level I am at now. Barring disability, most people who are poor could improve their situation if they were so inclined and worked for it.
"I can't get a raise! It'll cut into my government check!" I don't know how common that really is, but if it happens, then you know that person has elected to remain on the Welfare Plantation rather than seek freedom. |

Yes it is. I also have 8 kids and a mother to support. We also give quite a bit to charities. I'm already paying for those unwilling.

This guy is a moron, my family are legal immigrants and they made the American dream come true. As their children we made the American dream come thru with hard work and dedication. Just hoping the work ethics rubs off on my guys as well.
Our guys classmates some of who are legal immigrants work very hard and have made the American dream come true for their families and don't have their hands out. They put on their boots and made it happen. |

Every engineering class I took in college had empty seats, and there was plenty of student aid and loans available. People didn't WANT to be there.

How 'bout he go preach to Hillary, Soros, Bloomburg and any other self serving disgustingly rich progressive cunthead..
In the meantime I got hay to mow... |

Yeah, I'm a dream hoarder.. MY dreams. Fuck every other leech.

my household income is roughly 160k and my 6 month old will be going to the best schools we can afford.
Fuck that D-bag. |

My wife and I worked our asses off to get where we are. We just now feeling like we're making it. And damn right I plan on leaving my kids a healthy nest egg.
That guy and the rest of his ilk can lick my taint while I EARN my riches. |

I agree with some of that. Professional licensing and zoning laws do impair the ability of the poor. I've seen plenty of examples of people trying to better themselves get shut down by the city for not paying for the right to earn a living.

I have piles of dreams in my garage and living room that reach the ceiling. Just little paths to go room to room... I haven't been able to use my own bathroom in months... I just shit through a hole in the floor

The Zero Sum fallacy.
Seriously, we need to burn down the Universities. They aren't teaching reason. They're indoctrinating. |

I don't simply want to hoard their dreams, I want to crush them. I want to leave them empty and void with nothing left but contempt for humanity itself. Only then will my thirst and hunger for their misery be satiated.

MrsObserver remarked some years ago that my Indian name should be "Chief Shits on Dreams".
I guess she really is prescient. Who knew (aside from her, of course)? |

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if there are more people in the $112k range living paycheck to paycheck than those making half that.
Gotta keep up with the joneses. Big house, a couple cars, the boat, latest and greatest electronics, etcetera etcetera. All that shit adds up super quick. They aren't hoarding shit. It goes out as fast as it comes in. Anyway the authors point sounds very dangerous. Essentially lowering everyone to a certain level so everyone can be equal. Sounds suspiciously like communism. |

You can take all the wealth on earth and divide it equally to every person.
In five years most everybody will be back in the same position they started from. |

Coming soon to the country you live in. Look for this mentality to grow here and politicians to legislate for, "sharing the wealth," and taxation to support the burgeoning FSA. Our country as we have known it is changing, and the march toward socialism will continue. As Margaret Thatcher said, "The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money."

Meh, I dont make that much, but live well within my means. House, land, vehicles all paid off. Busted my ass though for what I do have and I'll be damned if any chucklehead is going to redistribute any more than it already is.
If they had my work ethic, they wouldn't NEED my money! |

Idiot. I guess the hundreds of thousands of dollars my wife and I have invested are not helping anyone
