It would seem to me that there are standards in place for what constitutes appropriate street markings for a reason.
What's to stop local governments from selling advertising space literally on public streets, if they can do this? Drive on down the road and have to distinguish between legitimate street markings and ads for Pizza Hut, Pepsi, clothing lines, etc. painted on the lanes of travel This could get out of hand very quickly |
