While the lathe was doing its thing today, I stuck an old .223 barrel in the mill and sectioned the chamber and part of the bore, inc the throat

Heres some pics of it with a round of FNM 5.56 and a 80JLK seated at 2.517"

Heck, that chamber still looked pretty good...wonder how bad my 3000 plus rounds 300 rum barrel looks.....

It's a JLK 80gn VLD seated to touch the lands in my other rifle.
Powder charge is 25gns of Reload Swiss RS52, which is similar to Varget,RL15, N140 etc, but gives a bit more velocity.
I have a 800, 900, 1000yd match in a few weeks time and am getting ready

Pretty sure a .223 and a .300 are going to have a different diameter round and won't fit in there.

The area between the step where the case ends, and where the rifling starts.

Neat! Thanks for posting that.

I agree w/ person above - it does not look "shot out."

On the other hand, the proof is in the performance - and it sounds like the barrel was not performing it's best any longer.

Some will, some won't. Depends on the bullet profile.

Due to the fact that the case is shorter, you can chamber a 300 BLK in a 5.56. There have been several cases of people exploding their guns doing just that.

Not shot out, but it was having other issues so got the chop

Perhaps something on the order of 24 TPI screw thread. It'd be a bit dicey getting the rifling to bite at any kind of useful velocity, though

I was aircrew in the USAF and flew on the AC-130U Spooky Gunship. We managed to get a few non-serviceable 25mm Gatling gun barrels from the guys that fixed our guns and we cut them down as below for attachment to retirement plaques, etc. We used a chop saw and it took forever, damn those 25mm barrels are tough! The 25mm round in mine is a fired case with a turned wood projectile painted to resemble an HEI round.

The problem is the recoilless nature of the round lacking a proper backblast area tends to injure the firer, impressing upon him that homemade Gerlich guns are expensive to receivers and fingers, if not eyeballs.
