It looks similar to this, but not the Rubicon. 2017 Wrangler Unlimited 4X4 3.5L V6 with 6 speed manual transmission 3.21 axle ratio 16" steel wheels Color is Gobi with the black hardtop option It will be used mostly for around-town driving in a mountainous area that gets several snows each winter. FWIW, I put ~150k miles on a late '90s Cherokee and other than a clutch throwout mechanism going south, I had no significant problems. I really liked it. Philosophically, I'm not a big fan of Chrysler because of poor management and having to be bailed out at our expense, but to get what I want, I may have to lower my standards. I was originally wanting an SUV but can't find anything with true 4WD and manual transmission. I may be an old fart but I'll be damned if I going to buy an automatic transmission! I've never owned one and am too old to start now! The major concerns are quality and reliability. |

For what those are going for I would get something for around town and then an older Jeep as a toy.
Eta or a 4runner and give up some trail capability. |

Unless they changed them in should have a 3.6 pentastar engine. The wife's needed and intake cam, exhaust cam and 12 lifters at 40k miles. Got it back on Friday and traded it on Saturday. Never again.

Because it's new and you'll incur the depreciation and sales tax. Does it offer anything that a 2015 model with under 30k miles doesn't have?
The 2018 will have a total redesign, as I understand it. |

You shouldn't get that because it's not a Rubicon. I hear a lot of JKU owners lament not just pulling the trigger and spending the negligible difference.

Depending on your desire for off-roading and mods, the 3.21 axles may not be your favorite.
I have an older JK with the 6 speed and 3.21s, and it doesn't love hills. On flat ground, though, I'm approaching 20 mpg. The hard top seems to be a pain in the ass to remove regularly. Most people seem to settle for just removing the doors and not the top. |

The problem with used Jeeps around her is that they're beat to shit by the time they're traded in.
It won't be going off-road much. I need the 4WD to get in and out of the valley when it snows. |

Also note that if you should decide to put bigger tires on, that 3.21 gearing really will kill your power curve and highway gas mileage.

I have had O problems from my 2015 JKU rubicon, altho the GPS in the radio will always quit when you really need it.

Previously mentioned, Just empty every pocket. Its made by chrysler.
 For what they want for one you can get a nice truck. Only advantage of a jeep is a short wheelbase for tight areas off roading.

I would get one with 3.73 gears over 3.21 buts that's not a huge deal breaker. The 3.21 you would have to buy new carriers to do a regear in the future.

If you opt for the tow package from the factory it will come 3.73 instead of standard 3.21.
My '67 Kaiser is geared 5.89.

Autos are and always have been more capable off road. That's and old school way of thinking. I would never in a million years buy a new Chrysler product and I'm done with GM too. |

Thanks for keeping 'em coming, guys. I'm taking notes. Right now it looks like the only way I'm going to get a manual transmission is with the Wrangler or a Subaru Forester. A pickup truck isn't an option -- yet. |

1. Strongly encourage 3.73...
2. We've owned two 2-door JK's and 2 JKU's..... Either one is great. However, we prefer the 2-door as it is primarily just the wife and I and it seems more 'traditional' and fun whereas the 4-door, for us, was more SUV like. If we have passengers, they are younger and can easily navigate into the backseat. Having said that, the 4 door is nice for hauling more 'stuff' and ease for passenger entry. If needed, you can take the backseat out of the 2-door and have plenty of room for 'stuff'. 3. The premium top is worth the extra $$$ if you want the open air top down experience. Much easier to handle. Looks better IMO. Hard tops are good for winter, but, the soft top works as well, plus, it's just too much fun to drive with the top down when it's above 55 degrees and sunny. |

3.21 axles are a waste; even if you don't care, most people looking to buy later will.
Be prepared for the hard top to leak at the top of the A-pillar. The fix isn't hard, but expect it to happen. lol @ all the short wheelbase non-drivers that think the 4-door can't be taken places. |
