House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz announced Wednesday he will not seek re-election in 2018.

The Utah Republican, who’s been in Congress since 2009, confirmed the decision on Facebook.

“After long consultation with my family and prayerful consideration, I have decided I will not be a candidate for any office in 2018,” he wrote, while hinting at another run in the future.

“After more than 1,500 nights away from my home, it is time. I may run again for public office, but not in 2018,” he said, adding: “For those that would speculate otherwise, let me be clear that I have no ulterior motives. I am healthy. I am confident I would continue to be re-elected by large margins. I have the full support of Speaker Ryan to continue as Chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. That said, I have made a personal decision to return to the private sector.”

Some of you all will never be happy. Lambast those who stay in office until Grim Reaper shows or criticize those who impose onto themselves a term limit. Can't say that I'm a big fan of him, but it's certainly nice to see someone leaving DC at room temperature.

What do you expect him to do, whip out a pistol and start shooting people? He's handed out subpeonas, he's demanded information and he's brought their crimes to the light of day. That's really all he can do, from that point it's up to others to prosecute them. It's not his fault if others won't, or can't, do their jobs. I expect just about everyone involved is afraid of the entrenched bureaucracy to some degree, they can swing a big club if you piss them off.

I get the vibe that Chaffetz is tired of how the federal government and washington DC as a whole works. His videos lately have shown him to be totally and utterly defeated by a massive grinding cog of intentionally inept federal workers "just passing the buck". All the while billions of our nation's dollars are being lit on fire for no purpose other than to make sure those same dollars are there the next year to burnt again and again. It has to be a massive drain on any man who has a shed of honesty and integrity.

The rumor I'm hearing is that he has intentions of running for Governor in Utah. Current governor is term limited and will not be running. Romney's kid is also considering a run for the office. I'll take Chaffetz in flat minute over Mitt light.
